Livestream: https://elections.europa.eu/european-commission/de/brunner/
Big Sister Johansson's successor, Magnus Brunner, wants to "look at rules on #dataretention", considers the #ChatControl proposal ‘urgent’ and wants to finalise the negotiations: https://hearings.elections.europa.eu/documents/brunner/brunner_writtenquestionsandanswers_en.pdf
But Austria has no #dataretention policy and opposes #ChatControl?
I hope for many critical questions from MEPs in his LIBE hearing next Tuesday from 6.30pm. Livestream: https://elections.europa.eu/european-commission/en/brunner/
The strategy of tiring out civil society appears deliberate, as always.
I wish we had a strong, structural solution to that.
@quincy @echo_pbreyer we kind of have, but if a majority still votes for candidates and parties, that can be trusted to make it wrong, than we will get it wrong. Most people should have the capacity to know and see for what they vote. Maybe I'm too optimistic with what brainpower each person has, but I'm convinced that it's enough. Maybe people should see and experience how serious politics is? Still a thing that shouldn't be needed after Nazis. I don't know.
@echo_pbreyer Not dissimilar to Malmström pushing data retention, after serving in, and being nominated by, a government that chose not to implement the illegal directive.
