While the people of Kirksville strive to make their neighborhoods safe and welcoming, sometimes an element appears that wants to break down that community spirit and divide neighbor from neighbor.
One such group is the Aryan Freedom Network (AFN), an organization that claims to be, unapologetically, 'committed to the interests, ideas, security and cultural values of the White Race' at the exclusion of all others. AFN has posted on their website that they will hold a 'meet and greet' in Kirksville on Saturday, July 19, though they have not publicly disclosed a location or time.
According to the AFN website, they have self-proclaimed themselves the largest White nationalist organization in the country...though the Anti-Defamation League describes them as 'small.'
According to Hate Trackers, an organization that, as it name says, tracks hate groups, 'The AFN is a nationwide Nazi group based out of De Kalb, Texas.' The AFN website is littered with Nazi imagery and swastikas.
They will likely be meeting privately but are known to do pop up street actions where they're masked, usually armed, and displaying vile posters and banners,' an email from Hate Trackers stated. 'For them to be in your area means they must have members around there.'
While the group claims to have over 30 state chapters, their website shows no foothold in Missouri. Hate Trackers said that their likely route Friday will be up from DeKalb to Kansas City, where they will spend the night before leaving for Kirksville on Saturday morning."
