I intended to replace Vivaldi but ended up replacing Brave with Zen Browser.

However, I couldn't let go of Vivaldi due to my thousand-plus bookmarks and hundreds of speed dials, as I couldn't find a way to transfer them to Zen, which also has a different workflow.

That said, Zen is a fantastic browser!

Thinking about ditching Vivaldi. It's become too unstable and resource-hungry on Linux.

I need a browser that supports Speed Dial and Workspace. Brave is my secondary browser — solid overall, but it lacks those two feature I really rely on.

Any recommendations?

File encryption with a browser.

I've been exploring the #WebCryptoAPI and I'm impressed!

When combined with the #FileSystemAPI, it offers a seemingly secure way to #encrypt and #store files directly on your device. Think #localstorage, but with #encryption!

I know #webapps can have #security vulnerabilities since the code is served over the web, so I've #OpenSourced my demo! You can check it out, and it should even work if #selfhosted on #GitHubPages.

IMPORTANT NOTES (PLEASE READ!):
* This is NOT a product. It's for #testing and #demonstration purposes only.
* It has NOT been reviewed or audited. Do NOT use for sensitive data.
* The "password encryption" currently uses a hardcoded password. This is for demonstration, not security.
* This is NOT meant to replace robust solutions like #VeraCrypt. It's just a #proofofconcept to show what's possible with #browser #APIs.

It took a while, and a lot of trial and error but finally got the wgpu to work and play nicely with the rest of the crates.

The rendering isn't quite where I would like for it to be, it some routines just need to be tweaked an I think I will get the quality output I am looking for.

This is our take on Crypto. It has not changed. There is a reason why we have not included Crypto in Vivaldi.

We are very proud of the features we have added, but we also proud of the "features" we have not added.

It comes to a point in the life cycle of Software that it becomes so big that frameworks that sit on top of it start to appear.

HTML? ActiveX, Flash, JavaScript.
JavaScript? Svelte, React, Angular, Vue
Vue? Nuxt

All of this because one guy decided to transmit "login" and the system crashed after the "o" character. Who would have thought.

Thinking about #browser #fingerprinting:

Attempts to make my browser less unique failed. With #Firefox ESR on #Debian and without proprietary fonts installed, I'm part of a infinitesimally small cohort. #Torbrowser helps, of course.

But how about the other way around, i.e. trying to randomly change the fingerprint every hour or for every new browser tab? E.g. by changing screensize, list of fonts, #userAgent string etc.?

Does a Firefox plugin already exist for that?
