It's the last Saturday of the month - work party day for our merry band of conservation volunteers - and today I shall be up to my neck in stinging nettles and brambles, helping to clear invasive Himalayan balsam from my local wood.
The marshy area where it is proliferating has flag iris and marsh marigolds, beautiful native plants which are being choked out by the prolific invader.
I'll be going into the marsh via the stream.
