#gitlab warum musst du so scheisse sein?

Schau dir den email-workflow an! Der geht sogar offline!

Warum gehst du nicht zu einem UX-Designer und holst dir ein Face-Lifting für deinen PR-Workflow?

gitlab!!!

UND WIE DU WIEDER LAGGST!

EWIGE LADEZEITEN!

UND STÄNDIG DIESE GLITCHES!

What is this?

I have a #gitlab pipeline running each day checking for security vulnerabilities using #OWASP dependency check.

Now it fails with "error reading /builds/sim-activation/eid-connector/.m2/repository/org/springframework/boot/spring-boot-autoconfigure/3.5.0/spring-boot-autoconfigure-3.5.0.jar; zip END header not found`"

Locally this works.

Someone please help me understand.

Why are there still so many people and orgs that fiercely advocate #foss & #freesoftware still publishing on GitHub?

I’m new to the scene but know there are much better alternatives like #codeberg #forgejo (I self host this) #gitlab

Aren’t all the reasons for leaving the Microsoft ecosystem not applied?
Or are there some inherent dependencies to proprietary services that’ve projects locked in?

Would love to hear from folks with more insights.

#TIL that somehow the Container-Images for #Hugo provided by GitLab (for Gitlab-pages) stopped getting updates 4 months ago.

I updated the theme and my pipeline stopped working.
Why? Because the hugo-version was too old.

There’s now some community project, that provides many different flavours of up-to-date images: docker.hugomods.com

Switching to one of these community-images was easy and the pipeline is green again.

I believe #GitLab issue gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/- is important (not top-prio, but still important), but can't really put my finger on why. Can you help me come up with reasons so I can comment arguing for it to be reopened (and hopefully fixed)?

Maybe @yournameisinvalid can help? The #bug is about #fileNames, not names of people, but I suspect there might be some overlap.

I'd refer to @spolsky's joelonsoftware.com/2003/10/08/, but I fear that might come across as condescending, which isn't my goal.

around 2016, #GitLab realized that the number of open issues was growing faster than the team could handle (or just look at) them.

a year later they decided to close all issues that had not seen activity from a GitLab team member for a while. that made some people unhappy. so they stopped doing that.

one or two years later, they decided to make a bot comment on old issues and then close if nobody responds. of course I tried to reproduce all of those year old bugs and responded to the bot every year since then.

so now they came up with a new plan: they run a script with a personal access token to close old issues. I got notification emails in several of my old bug reports with the exact same message coming from different product managers.

to me, this is really frustrating because I feel like my time on documenting the bugs along with reproduction steps, fighting the autoclose bot for years and sometimes even arguing with product managers if it actually is a bug—that time feels wasted now.

I've started migrating my repos from Codeberg to Worktree.ca; I'll keep the Codeberg repos as mirrors.

Doing this because Worktree is Canadian, and I subscribe; I felt a little bad using a non-profit's infra even though all my stuff there is open source and my CI needs are pretty minor.

EU folks: Codeberg.org is great (Forgejo).

CA folks: Worktree.ca is great (Gitea).

It looks like AI developer assistants will always carry the risk that it is trying to pwn the developer who is using it. This is a great write-up of how one was trained to insert malicious links via the source code it was trained on.

@mvexel@en.osm.town I found the community around #Codeberg to be much more welcoming and the project itself to be very much worth supporting.
It not only has a familiar interface that is more aligned with
#GitHub and #GitLab, which many people might be used to, but it also provides a lot of options for more technical users (like CI).

It offers an easy way to migrate from existing
#Git forges and mirror them back in case you still want to keep your #OSS accessible on the former platform. I did this with most of my GitHub repos and bow only use GH if I want to contribute to other projects which are still on there.

Codeberg really is just a branded
#ForgeJo instance so everything about it is #OpenSource.

Also, the community as well as the German NGO behind Codeberg itself and the way they have communicated with their members since I had become one, has been great!
