Back to my usual material - where was I? Oh yes, we know something about the landing sites. Paul Wooster (SpaceX) identified 4 areas (top map) in 2018. Matt Golombek et al. identified specific locations close to resources including ice at LPSC in 2021. Cole Pazar (Colorado School of Mines) added a few more soon after. I haven't seen much since then. It's all about hardware at the moment.

This is a good place to end this Mars sequence of posts. On to a new topic tomorrow.

What is the most universal way of representing GPS coordinates that Google Maps can also understand? I often need to give people a coordinate and use other maps than Google. Then when my partners copy the coordinate I to Google Maps, they end up in the Pacific Ocean or something.

EDIT: Got the answer!

Jerry Sanders, a NASA ISRU specialist (who sadly just took the deferred retirement option currently eroding NASA) described a putative base site in Jezero crater in a 2018 presentation. The map at left shows the base area slightly east of the delta explored by Perseverance. The layout is shown at right. Equipment would be landed before people arrived, and two Mars ascent vehicles would be fueled using local resources.

Visaya et al. presented a more elaborate exploration plan around Noctis Landing at LPSC in 2019 (top map). Shubham et al. added more details at another 2019 meeting and again at LPSC in 2021. The long traverses to Tharsis might require pre-positioned supplies. I can't really believe in traverses this long on Mars, but maybe one day... The other maps show targets with interesting compositions and fanciful names.
The scale of the top map should read 1000 km - oops!
