Many of the artists that we encounter are completely unaware of the mathematics that bubble beneath their craft, while some consciously use it for inspiration. Our instincts might tell us that these two subjects are incompatible forces with nothing in common, mathematics being the realm of precise logic and art being the realm of emotion and aesthetics. But what if we’re wrong?

Marcus du Sautoy unpacks how we make art, why a creative mindset is vital for discovering mathematics, and how a fundamental connection to the natural world intrinsically links the two subjects.

Marcus du Sautoy is a mathematician, author and broadcaster. He is Charles Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science in Oxford.

British #actress Emma Watson has been banned from #driving for 6 months after being caught speeding by #ThamesValleyPolice in #Oxford - 38 mph in a 30 mph zone, quite a bit over the limit - and Oxford is a busy city with many #pedestrians and cyclists.

She was banned due to already having 9 demerit points on her licence (and should know better, being a student at the University so surely would be familiar with the city's #traffic patterns?)

Weiterhin heiß in #Oxford, was dazu führt, alle Hochkultur Hochkultur sein zu lassen und mit dem Rad erneut (täglich!) an die #Themse zu fahren und im Schatten mit vielen anderen freundlichen Menschen rumzuliegen. Dabei baden und die Gänse, Schwäne, Enten, Möwen und restliches Wassergetier beobachten.
Abschließend noch ein Absacker in #ThePerch.

Bin grad in #Oxford unterwegs. Da wir mit dem VW-Bus reisen, sind die Fahrräder dabei und ich muss sagen, das war eine sehr gute Idee! Es gibt sehr viele Radwege, die zwar oft erratisch enden, aber das Miteinander auf schmalen Wegen am Wasser entlang, für FußgängerInnen und RadfahrerInnen gemeinsam, funktioniert entspannt. Der Linksverkehr ist etwas herausfordernd, da man mit dem Rad einfach näher am Verkehr dran ist.

The burst water main that's been reducing water pressure to a trickle in OX3, OX4, and OX33 in @oxford. The A40 cycle track is closed near Old Marston, at the end of Mill Lane.

I spoke to one of the crew working on it, and he said they're hopeful of getting it up and running again by morning, but also that they're planning on working on it overnight. Bottled water at Thornhill Park and Ride if it's not fixed.
