Today at 6PM there will be an on-line meeting hosted by the Portland Democratic Socialists of America and featuring trade unionist Kristian Williams to organize opposition to the Portland Police Association's bid to join the Northwest Oregon Labor Council.

Williams is the author of the seminal history of the police in America, Our Enemies in Blue. His next book will be a history of the Portland Police union. It is coming out in 2025.

RSVP here to be emailed a link to the Zoom meeting:

actionnetwork.orgBudget Cuts, Portland Police, and the Labor Movement The cops are worried about Portland City Council. They've gotten used to bloated police budgets, absurd overtime payouts, and immunity for violence misconduct. But with 4 socialists elected to City Council, the police union is suddenly a "friend of workers" -- petitioning recently to join the local labor council of labor unions, Northwest Oregon Labor Council (NOLC). The labor council "speaks" for labor at the City and with elected politicians. What does this mean for Portlanders fighting threatened cuts to their community centers, parks, and other vital city services? What does this mean for the effort to hold Portland police accountability for misconduct? Join police abolitionist, author, and local union member Kristian Williams in conversation with rank-and-file union members at the City of Portland.

Went to the #ladds500 today and got me some 50 ish laps in, which is roughly 10 miles. For those who don't know, the Ladds 500 is a relay race around a traffic circle in SE #PDX. The number 500 is the number of laps around the circle to make 100 miles. The motto of the ride is "Let's do something stupid"

This year felt joyful with people on the sidelines handing out pancakes, ice cream, hot dogs, and other goodies to the riders.

Rode in and back from Beaverton for a grand total of 45 miles.
