How does a Pebble Time Steel battery look like?
Anyone got a photo?
I'm trying to decide whether mine still looks good or not.
Whether it is slightly turning into a spicy pillow or not.
I've replaced the battery on my Pebble Time Steel and looking forward to charge it again after I've emptied the battery completely for the first time. It's running since 2025-03-21 = around 10 days and it's still at 4%.
Regarding the drops: I wasn't able to wear it all the time (first I've attached the screen using tape and when glueing it back on, a pin of my wristband failed...)
Fucks sake Garmin are introducing a subscription paywall. The new #Pebble can't come quickly enough
This makes me exceptionally happy: https://store.repebble.com/
I went through three #pebble watches, using them until they fell apart, and was extremely disappointed when the company went under. They did precisely everything I wanted in a smart watch, no fluff or useless features. I never wanted a health monitoring device or something that did everything my phone did, just a tool that was a remote extension of my phone. I'm excited and optimistic about the newly revived effort.
The latest #Pebble blog post reminds me of why I’m backing this project: https://ericmigi.com/blog/gratitude-and-faq
On the one hand, Pebble proved to the world that smartwatches are a thing, and now there are several out there, but most are slick, locked-down things.
The new Pebble is a scrappy, tiny company, building a watch that is specifically open-source, extensible and repairable, with the visible-in-sunlight screen and massive battery life I love. It's nicely anti-#enshittified…
Ahhh, so they put out some more detailed info on the new #Pebble watches. It turns out that the Core 2 Duo model is going to be literally the Pebble 2. Like they found a supplier that still had stock of most of the parts from the original Pebble 2. Unfortunately this means the issue with the buttons falling apart will still be a thing. Though they say they have made a slight tweak to improve their durability a little.
For those who heard me cry after successfully fix my watch because I lost its charging cable:
I finally found the charging cable for my #PebbleTimeSteel and it is currently charging, Yay \o/
What is more #nostalgia for you :

→ The old #UbuntuTouch phone ads music in the background :D ?
NB: I am now using a #Fairphone5 running Ubuntu Touch with my #PebbleTimeSteel paired !

Notifications dont work due to how UT handles notifications but getting stats is at least pretty useful! Need to see what other UT apps i can try.

#Pebble loving friends. If you're getting one of the new watches, which one did you go for?
#Pebble is back! At least sort of, with the open-sourced OS and now a couple of new watches up for preorder.

@erebion I will. I'm carrying it right now. During the test, the screen is fixed with some tape.
Thanks for asking regarding the battery connector I was very careful and used kapton tape to isolate all contacts I wasn't working on. I think that working on the old (swollen) battery is less critical than working on the the new battery. I wasn't able to measure a voltage on the old battery. Both batteries are equipped with a protection circuit.
