For Plato, the difference between a deplorable tyrant and a worthy king is not a matter of the structure of governance — much less a matter of the centralization of power — but rather a matter of character. Both kings and tyrants exercise absolute control, but tyrants are beholden to their appetites, while kings obey the dictates of reason.

The Washington Post · ‘Plato and the Tyrant’ humanizes the famous philosopherBy Becca Rothfeld

So I saw this online debate on ideas about the future and someone said that ai chatbots could never instigate any future because they're fixated on the past. And that made me remember the Socratic/Plato thing about dialogic learning and that writing is essentially dead words on a page because the writer (if they are dead) cannot argue or develop new ideas.

And they really had a point didn't they?

Linux has a lot of image and video libraries and apps. I've used some of them a lot to take and process lunar and planetary images like the one below of the #plato Crater region.

A Linux app operated the video camera that took the images, a Linux app stripped out the frames for processing, a Linux program that I wrote aligned and stacked the frames, and a Linux app provideed the tools to sharpen the resulting image.

Is the #Rapture in the Sky or on Earth?

#NewTestament: #1Thessalonians 4:14–18. While many modern #Christians imagine the "Rapture" as being taken into #heaven forever, Paul had a very different—and far more cosmic—view. Drawing on #Greek and #Romanphilosophy, especially #MiddlePlatonism and #Stoicism, Paul describes spiritual (#pneumatic) bodies, #atmospheric levels, and even an invisible, #divine substance animating #creation.

With #Mozilla yeeting #Pocket and Towel Day coming to an end, it was high time I rush to finish my blog about how I switched to #KOReader and #Wallabag to make my reading workflows better.

There is also a sprinkle of #Plato, #Nextcloud, #CalibreWeb, #OPDS and #YunoHost in the mix ;)

TL;DR:
• it’s easy to set up
• it takes a few hours/days to getting used to
• it’s very much worth it

Hook’s Humble HomepageTrying out KOReader and Wallabag (the first few days and months) - Getting excited about reading againI tested KOReader, Plato and Wallabag on my Kobo and am very happy with the outcome. (Plus some improvement suggestions.)

Among the books I grabbed at the local bookcrossing spot yesterday was a little brochure of the 1956 English translation of Phaedrus by W.C. Helmbold and W.G. Rabinowitz (Twelfth edition from 1975). The pages are covered in pencil notes in Hebrew, but that’s not the interesting part — as I read it, I imagine Socrates speaking in Stephen Fry’s voice. Very, very amusingly fitting.

That said, Charles Dance’s voice would work brilliantly too.
