Gestern habe ich zum ersten Mal bei einer Abschlussfeier gesprochen, der Lavender Graduation (für LGBT+-Studierende) am Warren Wilson College im Westen von North Carolina. Ich war noch nie eingeladen worden, bei einer Abschlussfeier zu sprechen, und ich war mir auch nicht sicher, ob ich jemals eingeladen werden würde. Ich bin ... nicht schüchtern, wenn es darum geht, zu sagen, wer ich bin.</p><p>
Aber einige Studierende haben mich gebeten, die Festrede bei ihrer Abschlussfeier zu halten, also habe ich meinen Van gepackt und bin nach Asheville gefahren, wo ich seit dem Hurrikan im letzten Herbst zum ersten Mal wieder war. Rintrah (mein Hund) hat brav im Van auf dem Parkplatz gewartet (der Van ist klimatisiert und ich bekomme eine Benachrichtigung, wenn die Temperatur zu stark schwankt) und ich bin zum Pavillon gelaufen. Ich habe mich rundum willkommen gefühlt.</p><p>
Es ist lange her, dass ich etwas erlebt habe, das mich so tief daran erinnert hat, dass wir alle im selben Boot sitzen. Dass Queers sich mittlerweile geoutet haben, dass es einfach zu viele von uns gibt und dass wir uns zu sehr umeinander kümmern, als dass die Faschisten uns brechen könnten.</p><p>
Ich habe meine Rede in einer Raststätte auf dem Weg nach Asheville geschrieben, nachdem ich wochenlang über die Themen nachgedacht hatte, die ich ansprechen wollte. Früher habe ich keine Reden geschrieben, sondern nur Stichpunkte auf Papier gebracht. Aber dank meines Podcasts gewöhne ich mich immer mehr daran, von Skripten abzulesen und dann zu improvisieren, also habe ich diese Rede aufgeschrieben.</p><p>
Ich war mir nicht sicher, wie die Leute meine Rede aufnehmen würden. Sie hatten einen anarchistischen Geschichtsnerd eingeladen, der während des Aufstiegs des Totalitarismus zu ihnen sprach, zu einer Menge, die nicht von Natur aus politisch ist. Es gibt keinen Grund, warum wir politisch radikal sein müssen, um queer zu sein.</p><p>
Aber es schien gut zu laufen. Nicht alle waren begeistert davon, wie viel ich fluche, aber die Leute sind sich der Krise, in der wir alle leben, durchaus bewusst. Es ist momentan nicht besonders einnfach, den Kopf in den Sand zu stecken ... vielleicht ist das ein Silberstreif am Horizont.</p><p>
