Sometimes I feel like #skeumorphism in #UI is a #DarkDesignPattern, that companies and projects will adjust the margins and paddings of elements to give you that "new UI' look out of pure protocol.
At some point you could probably create an animation of various generations of UI, where it will loop back to its original design - almost like the UI is pulsating, breathing, with various rounded, sharpened, shadowed and glowed variations of the exact same thing.

Isn't it curious that Unity, Unreal and Godot all use very similar UI (and underlying representation) for how a UI element is anchored to its parent container?
This is based on the work I did for Unity's UI system that shipped in Unity 4.6 in 2015. It was later copied by Unreal and Godot - in Unreal's case, even before Unity 4.6 went out of beta!
No hard feelings - I'm proud to have been behind this "industry standard" :)

It's 2025, and #Firefox still thinks their #UI is the next SpaceX launch—except it's powered by #HTML and #CSS instead of rocket fuel. But don't worry, they're "hardening" it with Content Security Policies, because nothing screams "cutting-edge" like desperately patching a leaky, decade-old tech stack.

Also, I recently stumbled across the "Adaptive Tab Bar Color" Plugin, which colors the tab bar based on the dominant color of the current website.

A revelation! #React is...a #state machine!
Hold the front page! Who knew that rendering UIs was like transitioning states?!
Thanks, Jordan, for this #groundbreaking #insight that no #developer has ever considered before!

Remember my complaint about out of the box mapping of just 12 desktops in different desktop environments like XFce?
Because of my different workflows I have 16 desktops predefined, just so I know, with the keyboard shortcut, where to jump to fast and continue where I left off. I only use the mouse when I absolutely have to, or when it's really elegant to do so, so I'm a keyboard shortcut mapping daemon.
I haven't taken the time yet to check into the configuration files, of my preferred Desktop Environments and Window Managers, how to map more keyboard shortcuts to More virtual desktops.
However I'm certain that what you want is scriptable, in at least three Desktop Environments and at least two Window Managers it's just not out of the box
I love digging into configuration files and I've seen this options in a few of them
How about simply predefining the maximum amount of desktops that you need and just work in that
KISS principle
This is from my music player. I see the Pause symbol on the Play/Pause button.
Does this say it is currently in pause, or it will pause if I click it?
Right now I can see the progress timer moving and hear the music playing. But without the progress clock and if I would hear nothing, would I know if this is paused or if my audio isn't working?
Phoenix 1.18 is going to ship with support for https://daisyui.com. I wonder if upgrading might be a good opportunity for Keila to switch to daisyUI as well. Spruce up the UI a bit, simplify the markup, and finally add support for light mode.
Do any of you have thoughts on daisyUI?
You know, the #UX of #Mastodon would be that much more friendly if only those "Hide" and "ALT" buttons didn't get in the way of every image in one's feed.
So often these days, images have text in them -- and wouldn't you know it, the text is often blocked because of those buttons.
IMHO the hassle of the buttons' impeding legibility exceeds the value as affordances for managing the image.
I wish there were a user setting to hide them. Skeletor agrees!
Hello, Fostodon Community!
I’m Muhammad, a 14-year-old programmer, excited to share my project: FOSS-UI! It’s a free UI library for React, built on Radix UI, aimed at creating beautiful and accessible interfaces without proprietary constraints.

Bad #UI experience: I was trying to send a friend some money via #CashApp, but could not verify my identity. Here’s what their tech support found out:
“...from the documentation you have provided, we see that you have a legal one letter name. While we understand that is the name chosen and legally granted, we regret to inform you that we cannot proceed with the request at this time.”
I sent a response thanking them for figuring out the problem, and I wouldn’t try to get verified -- or use CashApp -- again.
I also sent them the URL for “Falsehoods Programmers Believe about Names”
