Ry Chaz<a href="https://mastodon.social/@dangillmor" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@dangillmor</a> This applies to so much music software including digital instruments (VSTi), mixing and mastering plugins etc. You can spend hundreds or thousands on packages of it, even download and keep backups ... but when the activation of it can be withheld, you are ultimately screwed when they claim the software isn't relevant anymore... or when they are gobbled up by another company which deprioritises previous software. The duration of each purchase can be brutally short, and then of course you have companies like Waves forcing subscription or overly-frequent license renewals based on OS updates.
