Uber rolled out Smart Routes a decade ago, followed a short time later by the Lyft Shuttle of its biggest competitor. Now it’s Uber’s turn again. The ride-hailing company recently announced Route Share, in which shuttles will travel dozens of fixed routes, with fixed stops, picking up passengers and dropping them off at fixed times. Amid the inevitable jokes about Silicon Valley once again discovering buses are serious questions about what this will mean for struggling transit systems, air quality, and congestion. "

Because I don’t have vehicle insurance with them, my insurance company clearly thinks I must have it with some other firm.

They’re running a campaign and so far today they’ve sent me one text and 2 emails trying to convince me to switch. They’re out of luck as my only vehicle is a bicycle 😆

I've been car free ever since I moved out from my parents home in the sticks 40+ years ago. Have rented one on maybe 10 occasions but never ever came close to even considering to buy such a thing. So I don't get the "unlikely" of the title, to me it always was the only way. #sustainability #science #cities #bancars

I was chatting about transport with my cousin that I’m staying with in an inner city suburb of Tāmaki. Like me, they don’t have a car. I asked how people respond when they hear they’re carfree* and she said in recent times people have become more positive about it - it’s becoming more fashionable! Good to hear. Though some people have little choice but to drive to work because of their location 🫤

*autocorrect changed this to carefree, which seems appropriate 😆

I really only need three #bicycles. I need one ebike for my utility transportation needs, one fitness bicycle to burn calories, and one bicycle to be an emergency backup, which I would prefer to be a non-e bike. I would *like* to also have a second ebike identical to the first one, but that's just for convenience—I'd keep that one with Winter tires, since I am #CarFree and ride year-round.

My local council has announced plans to pedestrianise the high street near me. The high street in question is already closed 3 days a week for about 8h. The proposal is to extend the pedestrianisation to 7 days a 8h a day.

Bear in mind, this is inner #London. There are already 3 different stations on 4 different lines within a 5m walk (and more within 15m) plus multiple bus routes.

Based on the above, how do you expect the local #Green party candidate for parliament is reacting?
