Lessons from an experiment in high detail #concrete #casting in the form of a FFT printout of #music using a 3d printed PLA mould:
1. Single piece moulds don't work with concrete. The demoulding process wasn't pretty. Next iteration will likely be a five piece mould. A shaped bottom, with four flat walls.
2. Concrete doesn't mind leftover stringing from the FDM process, it will eat it right up
3. Layer lines from the FDM transfer to smooth surfaces, but not to more complex geometry
4. The finest detail is somewhat lost on the concrete and stuck in the mould, might also have been due to point 1. Especially the lower bass frequencies (which are higher on the positive) got cut off and remained in the mould.
All in all a way better result than expected, but clearly not there yet. I'll be back if and when making _concrete_ progress
