"Archivists Recreate Pre-Trump #CDC Website, Are Hosting It in Europe."
404media.co/archivists-recreat

"A team of volunteer archivists has recreated the Centers for Disease Control website exactly as it was the day Donald Trump was inaugurated. The site, called RestoredCDC.org, went live Tuesday and is currently being hosted in Europe…Restored CDC isn’t going to have continuous updates on this type of healthcare and disease guidance, but it has brought back all of the critical data that was purged in an easy to use, easy to navigate, and fast website."

Here's the site itself.

The free press is a threat to fascism. They will attempt to silence dissidents at all costs.

Some are silenced by their organizations like CBS and Colbert.

Some are silenced by being arrested like the two journalists in Cincinnati.

Some are shot with “less lethal ammunition” like the British and Australian journalists who covered the LA protests.

Some are thrown in ICE detention despite having a work visa and a valid path to citizenship.

Mario Guevara was arrested June 14th and is being held at the Folkston ICE detention centre.

He faces deportation to El Salvador.

He’s committed no crimes and spent his days covering ICE raids and deportations.

This is clearly retaliation for speaking out.

Once they attack the press, things fall apart quickly.

Speak up for Mario Guevara. Speak up for all the journalists trying to do the right thing.

#RationalWiki has been saved from the brink of collapse from a series of frivolous #SLAPP lawsuits. We came out of this with an out-of-court settlement requiring removal of about 60 web pages, and a reincorporation from New Mexico (weak anti-SLAPP laws) to Oregon (strong anti-SLAPP laws). Moving forward, we are looking to replace two board members who helped get us through this difficult period.

RationalWikiRationalMedia FoundationFirst off, congrats for finally reaching the end-line for all this. I'd say more on this, but I'm on a phone at work so time is limited. So just mentally pad out my hurrah and (justified) back patting, yes? Anyhows, I have questions, which I am sure nobody is surprised about!

#Texas just gutted #FreeSpeech on #college #campuses. Is your state next?

New laws in the Lone Star State will silence dissent and undermine #faculty authority.

By Laura Benitez and Jonathan Friedman
July 14, 2025

"As thousands of students return to college campuses this fall, they will find themselves stepping into an environment reshaped by political and ideological mandates. Across the country, state legislators have been racing to exert new influence over free expression in higher education. Now, Texas has surged to the forefront, closing its 2025 legislative session by passing two alarming laws that take effect Sept. 1.

"Signed by Gov. Greg Abbott (R) in June, the new laws amount to a stunningly aggressive legislative crackdown on campus protest (#SB2972) and academic shared governance (#SB37) at public colleges and universities. The laws will not just silence dissent and undermine faculty authority in Texas; they provide a blueprint for how to dismantle academic freedom and chill speech on campus state by state.

"Only a few years ago, conservative lawmakers railed against college 'free-speech zones,' arguing that liberal administrators were muzzling students on the rest of campus. In 2019, Texas legislators joined other states in taking action by declaring all outdoor spaces on public campuses open for protest and speech by students, employees and the general public.

"Now, some of the same legislators have done an about-face. The campus protest law actually directs public colleges and universities to implement a version of free-speech zones and adopt sweeping limitations on protests. #Encampments? Banned. #Megaphones or #speakers during 'class hours'? Forbidden — if anyone claims your 'expressive activity' is one that 'intimidates others' or 'interferes' with an employee’s duties. Even wearing a mask during a protest — something many do for safety — could land a student or employee a disciplinary hearing resulting in 'sanctions.' And any expressive activity between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. is off-limits altogether."

"The Environmental Protection Agency [#EPA] said on Friday that it would eliminate its scientific research arm and begin firing hundreds of chemists, biologists, toxicologists and other scientists, after denying for months that it intended to do so."

"Australians must ask, who decides what we can say? Who defines what is hate and what is dissent? And who benefits from this silencing?

This is not just about one envoy or one definition. It’s about whether Australians will allow unelected figures to dictate public discourse, criminalise free speech and reshape our institutions in secret."

arXiv.orgTowards a Non-Binary View of IPv6 AdoptionTwelve years have passed since World IPv6 Launch Day, but what is the current state of IPv6 deployment? Prior work has examined IPv6 status as a binary: can you use IPv6, or not? As deployment increases we must consider a more nuanced, non-binary perspective on IPv6: how much and often can a user or a service use IPv6? We consider this question as a client, server, and cloud provider. Considering the client's perspective, we observe user traffic. We see that the fraction of IPv6 traffic a user sends varies greatly, both across users and day-by-day, with a standard deviation of over 15%. We show this variation occurs for two main reasons. First, IPv6 traffic is primarily human-generated, thus showing diurnal patterns. Second, some services are IPv6-forward and others IPv6-laggards, so as users do different things their fraction of IPv6 varies. We look at server-side IPv6 adoption in two ways. First, we expand analysis of web services to examine how many are only partially IPv6 enabled due to their reliance on IPv4-only resources. Our findings reveal that only 12.5% of top 100k websites qualify as fully IPv6-ready. Finally, we examine cloud support for IPv6. Although all clouds and CDNs support IPv6, we find that tenant deployment rates vary significantly across providers. We find that ease of enabling IPv6 in the cloud is correlated with tenant IPv6 adoption rates, and recommend best practices for cloud providers to improve IPv6 adoption. Our results suggest IPv6 deployment is growing, but many services lag, presenting a potential for improvement.
