Black-headed Gull........they actually have brown heads, but who am I to argue?

Looking straight into the open gape of a Black-headed Gull as it shouts its message (your own expletives can be added here), to the photographer. The direct sunlight on the head of the Gull shows that it is actually brown, not black.

In this shot the Gull is facing to left of frame and appears to be telling someone else to go away!

A nice hike at the Nature Sanctuary yesterday before the storm systems moved in. Very windy, but a good day for birding. New sightings included a White-crowned Sparrow on its migration and a Gray-cheeked Thrush. This one caught my eye. It is mating season, so a male and female Prothonotary Warbler were checking out nesting sites.

Volunteer work day today if we don't get stormed out.

Congratulations to Canada for electing a leader not a conservative destroyer.

Old Route 66 in Arizona (4/24/2025).

A view out of an abandoned building's window. The photo is in black and white. The inside walls are covered in graffiti. Outside there is a small box like structure with a large window, but no glass. Across the top is graffiti that reads, BSFL. On the left, further out is a large arrow positioned such that it appears stuck into the ground. It is probably twelve feet long and stuck into the ground at a thirty degree angle.

A nice canyon country fin (4/23/2024).

A black and white landscape photo of a very tall highly eroded sandstone formation. The bottom quarter of the photo is in shadow, it's flat, and covered in sagebrush. Then sunlight lights a cliff face. Extending out from the cliff face, from center right to center left are two narrow fins of rock. The furthest one on the right is longer than the closest one on the left. Both are very narrow. At their base is a conical pile of debris that has eroded down from the narrow fins over the millennia. The sky, due to a red filter, is very dark grey thus the sandstone cliff and fins standout brightly lit.

I'm a photographer & a retired fine art framer based in Reno, Nevada, (USA) & I'm in the process of moving to the Four Corners region. I've been running Linux since the late '90s. All photos are mine & edited using Darktable. I follow science, history, & photography toots. Here's a photo I made of Bonsai Rock, Lake Tahoe, Nevada (2017).

Bonsai Rock in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, is a large granite boulder just off the eastern shoreline. It's name comes from the two small "bonsai" trees growing in cracks at the top of the rock. The photo shows the rock in a mirror still lake with a red-orange sunset and distant mountain peaks in the background. There are two smaller rocks to the right that barely break the surface of the lake.

Three Common Tern are at centre of frame, the one closest with back to camera appears to be settled on the ground. The two upper centre of frame are in dispute, with wings outstretched, feet off the ground, and bill open, the bird on the right bears down toward the other bird. At the top right of frame another seems to be ignoring the whole episode.
