Earlier this summer I received a warning from Meta Quest that my 19 year old account was being used by a child.* They wanted me to confirm my age by sending them a photo of a government ID or credit card, which I was reluctant to do. Hence they suspended my Facebook, Instagram and Messenger account, I let the reactivation period lapse.

I'm actually glad it happened, this was the push I needed to de-Facebook my life. Luckily I had already downloaded and deleted most of my data from the services.

* I still don't know what caused this, it could be that my kids' use of a Quest headset on my account was analyzed in some way.

Hmm, apparently some #SocialMedia, #Facebook in this case, has an issue with histories of librarians. Shared the story on our library page, then shared it to local groups. One of the groups actually put the post as "pending" (i.e. on hold for review).

I feel so damn filthy every time I use FB. Only reason I log on to it is for the library's page, which our admin briefly deleted then decided to keep it (But that is another story).

@rotnroll666 Since leadership is (mainly) elected by people, it unfortunately implies the former (we haven't learned shit). That worries me even more than a few candidate-dictators.
Personally, I think it would help if we would stop being addicted to apps/sites that have a business model based on hate/polarization/surveillance, which imho is directly linked to voting behavior. Hence, #deletefacebook etc.

Ok wow, ich hätte das Kapitel erstmal zuende lesen sollen... anscheinend gab (gibt?) es Facebook Board-Mitglieder die kein Problem damit gehabt hätten (oder hatten? 🤔) den europäischen Faschisten im Wahlkampf zu helfen um Regulierungen zu verhindern. Wtf??

Schon etwas verrückt dass sich Facebook selber mit den Problemen der Tabakindustrie verglichen hat als es um Regulierung und die öffentliche Wahrnehmung ihres "Produktes" ging... (Siehe "Careless People" Kapitel 30 von Sarah Wynn-Williams)

Wenn man den Gedanken weiterspinnt dann sind Instagramm und Whatsapp die Vapes von Facebook? 🤔

Finally got through the process of downloading my old Facebook and couple of Instagram accounts data today. Pretty extensive! Had wait several days on Facebook alone.

Just clicked to confirm deletion of ALL my Meta accounts and couldn't be happier!

I have also mostly finished moving all +200 online accounts using my various gmail and outlook emails over to Proton Mail aliases! Coming for you next Google and Microsoft, so watch out!

It's hard work, but take back your data, privacy, and peace of mind from these big tech companies that profit from your doomscrolling and selling your data!

Facebook being used to coordinate racist attacks in Ballymena, Northern Ireland.

"There has been a call for “urgent” action against a Facebook page on which house addresses in Ballymena are being shared amid racist violence in the town.

The ‘Ballymena Reaction Group’ page has posted the names of streets in Ballymena, under which users have posted addresses, with some saying they are “local” in an apparent bid for the properties not to be targeted.

There has now been three nights of violence in Ballymena, with arson attacks on several properties in the town, while others have had doors broken and windows smashed."
