I've been getting a lot of questions lately about whether symptom X or behavior Y is a sign of ADHD. I don't like answering this question, everyone is different.
However, I would like to link to this comprehensive self-test, which I think is very successful

(Thanks @Jay16K for the hint)
Note: You'll need an account on the website to access the test.
New video! Troubleshooting, repairing and improving the VIC-20 Diagnostics Cartridge and Harness that turned out to be broken in the previous video.

Spent the better part of the day figuring out why the VIC-20 Diagnostics Cart I used in the last video didn’t work correctly. Multiple little things, actually. Now it does work beautifully and is switchable between the NTSC and the PAL version of the Diag. Phew. #Commodore #VIC20 #VC20 #Diagnostic
Today's `gcc` change is not a bug, but a feature! https://gcc.gnu.org/PR44677 now detects unused variables that otherwise took part in arithmetic, like
volatile int j=0;
j++;
A minor change you would say. And yet it broke the build of at least 3 packages that use `-Werror`:
- `assimp`: https://github.com/assimp/assimp/pull/6267
- `usrsctp`: https://github.com/sctplab/usrsctp/pull/729
- `systemtap`: https://sourceware.org/pipermail/systemtap/2025q3/028228.html
All good finds!

Can anyone recommend a good USB cable tester?
Money is definitely an object, because I'm a student and my housemate is on Social Security.
We have accumulated too many USB cables, and we need to responsibly dispose of defective ones, assuming we can sort them out.
#Microsoft Unveils #AI #Diagnostic Orchestrator That Beats #Doctors and Reduces Costs
Today, I picked up my loose ends with regards to the #Czerweny #CZSpectrumPlus, the #rare #ZXSpectrumPlus clone from mid-1980s #Argentina.
Since I was unable to remove the ICs myself (did they use "nuclear solder" back in the day?! Those ICs sat tight in their holes) I asked a friend who had a friend who was up to the job and very professionally removed these at his workshop.
So today I soldered sockets in place and prepared a #Diagnostic #ROM in order to find out what the problem is. Looks bad.
I have already replaced all "lower" RAM chips with new ones, leaving the "upper" RAM as they were.
However, given that *all* memory seems to be faulty, I now expect the #ZX8401 to be the problem. So now I need to get either one of those modern drop-in replacements or start hunting a real one ...
On the up side, video is working and the beeper is beeping. At least.
The next #thinkpad on my #workbench is an #E450 – I grabbed this from #ewaste to provide a family member a better laptop. It has a #i5-5200U at 2.2Ghz, and a max 16GB of #DDR3L #RAM so it can/should run #Win11, #linux, or #BSD with ease. The IO is ok, with multiple #USB3 ports, #HDMI, #ethernet and a memory card reader. This is a decent form factor, weight, and would make a decent laptop for someone. Though no docking station capabilities, they removed the port underneath.
There is a big BUT with this laptop though: it keeps freezing, and the video is glitching. Which may be why it went to ewaste…
I upgraded the DDR3L RAM to 16GB, and wiped the 500GB SSD that came with it.
Starting installing #Win11, and I let it install and reboot so I could refill my tea – to come back and the laptop was frozen with a black screen.
I rebooted, and it froze on the initial Win11 change password screen.
I rebooted again, went into the #Lenovo #BIOS #diagnostic tool, and started the full tests. As the test were running, I touched the nub and the video started glitching. Letting the test continue, the laptop froze while testing.
So, is this beyond time & effort to get working – or pull the spare parts and move on from?

Finally found a halfway decent OBDII Android app that:
Doesn't lock code reads behind a paywall/subscription
Supports multiple vehicles
Works with my generic Bluetooth ODBII reader
Although, seeing all these codes, I kinda wish I hadn't found the app. That's a lot of troubleshooting, ugh. I'm mostly concerned about the MAF, FPR, and glow plug codes. The radio, MIL, and cruise control codes are expected (I pulled some fuses troubleshooting other stuff).
The app is Car Scanner ELM OBD2 by 0vZ.
It seems to "just happen" in some #projects. `poetry install` should set up executable scripts in the venv's bin dir for them - but it just doesn't do it. And no matter how high you crank the verbosity, it will not emit a single #diagnostic to tell you *why* it isn't doing it. At one point I thought it only happened with projects using src-layout - but I'm not so sure about that now.
Documentation? Of course there's no mention of it. It should Just Work.
