Should I get a #DSTAR HT?
What's a good model and where's a good place to pick up one used? Local to #Pittsburgh, #Pennsylvania, USA would be ideal.
It can't serve more than one local user, but otherwise, you can connect to reflectors (all types, not just DPlus) & to other repeaters just as if there is was a gateway-equipped #DSTAR repeater on a local mountain (working on that, too).
I haven't actually *talked* to anyone but I do see my station show up on REF pages & the status page of the one repeater I have connected to.

Who does repeater coordination / spectrum management for Canadian amateurs? I need to make sure that this Pi-Star-based hotspot isn't causing issues.

When the move is complete, I want to save up to try and learn #amateurradio #digital modes like #dmr, #dstar, #m17, and so on... but where to start? There's so many protocols and all the HTs for anything but DMR just break the bank... any recommendations?

New Mastodon user from Sweden, another Twitter refugee. I jumped on this instance for radio related stuff (so far @ornotermes for other stuff). Goes by ornotermes in most other places.
I'm mostly in to the digital side of amateur radio but mostly use 2m FM to talk to people near me, and APRS.
Well, I seem to have bought some radios lately. Trying to learn about #dstar and #dmr in the #hamradio bands. Also ordered some BTech #GMRS PRO radios (w/integrated GPS sharing). And a used Motorola DTR600 and DMR1060 (900MHz #FHSS unlicensed). And I need to fire my #Meshtastic mesh back up too. Too long without working with #radios for me!
