Anyone in the #UK have experience of setting up a #RepairCafe ? There isn't one in my local town and I'm investigating setting one up. Especially with the #endof10 looming for #windows10 , I figure my experience with #linux and fixing stuff could be useful to others.

Namestitvena za(je)bava poteka v okviru mednarodne kampanje #endof10/konec10. 14. oktobra Microsoft preneha izdajati varnostne popravke za operacijski sistem Windows 10. Nadgradnja na verzijo 11 ni sama po sebi umevna, saj so Windows 11 računsko precej bolj zahtevni. Starejši računalniki bodo po posodobitvi počasnejši, čemur pa se lahko lastniki izognejo, če ne posodobijo Windowsov, temveč Windowse zamenjajo operacijski sistem z distribucijo GNU/Linux operacijskega sistema, ki normalno deluje tudi na starejših računalnikih. ---- Nalagaš de-googled Android na telefon v depresivni samoti? Si doživel(a) srčni zaštek, ko si brez varnostne kopije formatiral(a) disk ob inštalaciji Linux-a. Pridi to rajši delat v družbo hekerjev in hekerk v PLAC ter spoznaj skupnost somišljenikov. Wiped Windows off the kids' pc last night. They hadn't booted it for months, and could use the disk space to install a few games (Spore, Mini Metro and Worms for example).
No more spyware, and happy children. The world is a slightly better place in this home 
I love that the "Gendarmerie Nationale" has its own version of Ubuntu (GendBuntu), which is used on 97% of the computers (more than 100k).

(6/X) Migration update: Moving from Windows to Linux!
After 4 intense days, I’m pausing the move as I’ve run out of time. The biggest hurdle is migrating my research data. As a research librarian working on systematic reviews, I rely on reference managers and qualitative analysis tools, but I am struggling with compatibility issues — for example, EndNote/Atlasti (Windows) vs. Zotero/ Taguette (Linux).

Switching from EndNote to Zotero? Not as smooth as I hoped.
Wanted:
export EndNote library with PDFs, notes & group structure
Got:
* no group export via RIS/XML, had to do it manually,
* double records for refs in multiple groups
* lost (research) notes
* syncing to Zotero web = painfully slow
* limited storage 2GB (have to pay 120$/year for unlimited storage)

This is awful. I'm backing up my research data from EndNote + Atlas.ti because I can't use them on Linux. I tried switching to Zotero and Taguette, but the data migration process is problematic: I lost groups with Zotero and Taguette doesn't support QDPX file import. 
Does anyone know of a QDA tool for Linux that supports QDPX file import (Project Exchange Format for Qualitative Data)?

Obwohl gewöhnlich geraten wird, die Angestellten mit Trainings auf eine Open-Source-Migration vorzubereiten, stellte sich die Gendarmerie auf den Standpunkt, dass die Anwender kein Training für die Benutzung des Web Browsers benötigen. Der Wechsel zu Ubuntu verlief laut Guimard ohne große Komplikationen: „Die zwei größten Unterschiede waren die Icons und die Spiele. Spiele haben bei uns keine Priorität.“ Der europäische Informationsdienst OSOR hat vor Kurzem zwei Fallstudien vorgelegt, deren eine die migration der französischen Gendarmerie genauer unter die Lupe nimmt (siehe Artikel auf Linux-Magazin Online).
