July 20, 1983, 42 years ago today: There was a very slight descent and ascent between the crests of Stony Mountain and Sharp Mountain, and then it was all ridge walking for the final seven miles of the day. The Appalachian Trail followed the traces of an old stage road for most of that distance, passing through an attractive wooded tract known as Saint Anthony’s Wilderness.
It was 2 months ago when I took this picture. Should go hiking more often.

July 20, 1983, 42 years ago today: The remainder of the trail over Peters Mountain was much like the last few miles of hiking yesterday. The rocks continued to be tolerable. There were but a few exceptionally bad stretches. Thus far, only about twenty-five percent of the trail since the Cumberland Valley has been particularly rocky.

Nature’s bounty,
often called public lands,
parks and places
where you can find your soul,
a refuge where troubles are dismissed.
Wild blessings,
for one and all,
but when they’re gone
they’re in greed’s clutches,
our public birthright traded for a song.
Be everwell.
Is it possible for a serious #amateurradio operator to take a #hike without an activation? Yes, sometimes taking along you radio just isn’t feasible: Today we walked the Uttewalder Grund in the Saxon Switzerland National Park, which is basically a canyon. Carrying the radio’s weight just doesn’t make any sense there. #hiking #Saxony #Germany #Amaturfunk #Wandern #Nationalpark
Today the esker wasn't a good hiking place according to Alea the Black Cat. There was much sniffing the air, little walking, and then she lead me back to the house. As usual I have no idea why. Maybe the fox made some extra rounds checking out the fresh laundry nearby? Only the cat knows.
Exactly one hundred sixty days apart.
