#Journal of a slightly anxious Dutch Pixy (Friday, 20/06/2025).
I started this day in the hospital. I was admitted the previous evening, as they were afraid that I might have an infection in my wound. So I had been admitted and blood work had been drawn. The blood was inconclusive, so they wanted me to stay to do more tests and then compare them. I was placed in a room with two elderly ladies. Unfortunately, both slept with their teeth in jars. Which made for them to be good snoring galls, especially the one closest to me. I tried to sleep with my headphones on, but then I started to snore a bit myself and it woke me up every time.
I had forgotten some of my meds, one of which usually helps me sleep better. Fortunately, after some time, I got tired enough and I was able to fall asleep a few times. Of course I woke several times, and I needed to hobble to the loo all of those times as well. I was quite anxious. Knowing my luck with infections... The last hip surgery, I had three huge infection and needed heavy antibiotics for three months. The surgery I had in 2006 left me with a huge abscess and an extra surgery and all that. So, needing tests for a possible infection, yeah, I was quite scared of needing to head to the OR again...
I took all the meds the gave me. I wasn't allowed to eat just yet. Around 8, someone came to draw my blood. Then, the wait began... What would the results be? I tried to distract myself with re-watching the series "Scandal" on my phone. Yay for my headphones and the phone, as I needed to cut off all the extra sounds from the hospital. I was so scared that I would hear those words of "you need to stay sober, we're scheduling you for emergency surgery to clean the wound".
My dad had some appointments in the hospital as well. So when they were done, mum and dad came to visit me for a wee bit. I still had not heard about the results, so when the nurse came, my mum asked her if there was any news. She told us that, indeed, there was news. I was allowed to eat, and the doctor would come by later to tell me about the results. But, seeing that I was allowed to eat, it meant no surgery! But, it would take some time before the doc would come, and then it always takes time before you can get released. So, mum and dad headed home for now, so mum could walk with the dogs.
I got my headphones back on and tried to isolate myself with my series. I texted everyone that had asked about me. I wrote one message and I just copied it to most. I was too tired to write the same message over and over. After a while, I got some food, yay! And some time later, the doc came.
He discussed the results, saying the morning values were the same as last night's, so no increasement for the infection numbers, which was good news. The wound leaked one wee bit, but that was to be expected, as the would had been opened many times before. The doc said that the tissue was a tad more damaged because of it, so that could mean that there was more fluid from the damage that had to come out. He first wanted me to spend another night to monitor it, and so I could "take it easy and relax". I told him, a hospital environment is not a relaxing place for an autistic person. He asked about what I did during the day. I told him about Arwen, that we go out for a short and slow walk every few hours. And in between that, I rest on my bed, either sitting for a while, or lying down and trying to catch a snooze. He told me to take it easy with the dog walks, but yeah, Arwen makes sure we'll take it easy, especially with the warmer weather coming the next few days. But then, he told me he wanted the nurses to check the wound a few times, and if that was calm, then they could discharge me at the end of the day.
So yay for that! I called mum and told her. And then I texted some people again. I tried to relax some more with "Scandal" and just taking it easy. Then, around 14:30, the nurse came. She checked the wound, and my stats, and all was well. So, she told me I could call to be picked up. And that was like music to my ears.
After I had called my mum, I slowly started to pack my bag. Everything was ready when my mum arrived. So we quickly headed back to the car. First stop was at Appie, as I needed some groceries. Then we headed to my parents' place. When my mum was ready, we got the things in the car, and we headed back to our place.
Yay for the aircon in the car, as it was warm weather, and it was busy on the roads. Mum umpacked the car. Then, she helped me with some washing up. That really felt rather good. I had been feeling so icky... When I was cleaner than I was before , mum got her things and headed back to the busy roads. And I crashed on the bed and watched some telly.
I had some food, let Arwen out for a short walk, and then I relaxed some more. I was rather tired. At some point, I felt so cold... Even though it was about 23 degrees in the room. I got under the covers and then I dozed off. I woke up an hour later than I had wanted to get up! So I quickly got meds for Arwen and me. I let Arwen out for walkies and I brushed my teeth. Then, back to bed...
It was a night where I woke up many times. Every time I had to go to the loo. My bowels still don't function as they should, so every time I thought I had to "go". But it was just a whole lot of air... Around 5, I woke up again. As it was going to be a hot day (29 degrees they say), I got dressed and quickly walked a round with Arwen to start my day.
