The is the one I bought. It makes 1.8Kg https://www.riceculture.com.au/products/homemade-miso-kit It seems expensive but koji is quite expensive.
And this one probably makes half that amount judging by the amount of koji supplied, so more expensive by weight. It uses a glass jar instead of a plastic bucket, but the jar is only 850ml - once you leave space for the salt press that might be less than 500ml miso (just guessing). The jars are gorgeous but I have a 1L kilner jar with straight sides and a wide mouth (needed for ease of pressing the miso, smoothing the top, and cleaning the top of the jar after adding miso).

In 2003 someone I knew sent me a recipe for what is probably an Anglo-Indian recipe called Devil's Chutney. I never made it because the ingredient proportions were weird.
But such a thing does exist, albeit with better proportions.
This is close to the recipe I think that my friend intended: https://bridget-white.com/devil-chutney/ There are a number of identical recipes on the net - and some add tamarind (personally I'd reduce the vinegar if adding tamarind).
Then this one (scroll down) from an Indian source: https://www.goya.in/blog/ball-curry-devils-chutney-for-an-anglo-indian-lunch-recipe I like their addition of ginger-garlic.
My friend's recipe uses lemon juice rather than vinegar. Either would work. Use Indian chilli powder in the recipes, not US chilli powder that has other herbs etc in it.
