Weekly GNU-like #MobileLinux Update (19/2025): Waking it up to wake you up
I have a Lumbago, so in all likelihood, I won't be able to publish another installment of the "Weekly #MobileLinux Update" tonight. Sorry about that! #LinuxMobile
For my #mobilelinux peeps here are instructions on setting up widevine L3 so you can atleast access some DRM content. I have tested this on the furilabs #FLX1 and #pinephonepro and they both now have widevine support. Biggest thing for me is spotify web pwa, some people can use it to view 480p atleast on netflix assuming you set the UA correctly. This should work on all #ARM based device as it is software based. Thanks #AsahiLinux for creating the script

Finally found a cheap (€ ~50) used #OnePlus6 phone in good condition!
Managed to install #PostmarketOS on it. What a great feeling!
Camera is not working, but I guess that will hopefully be fixed later.
Look forward to explore this further.
Any tips/tricks for a #linuxmobile noob ?
#phosh looks beautiful also!
I love Lomiri (the environment running on Ubuntu Touch) so much! it feels so polished, the animations are great, etc,
The main problem is not being able to run general GNU/Linux apps that aren't made specifically for Lomiri, but i see there are some efforts to bring Lomiri into pmOS with the support for normal apps which is great if it succeeds!
So yesterday I saw a @postmarketOS toot about their web flasher for Android devices, and I thought - how hard would it be to make one for L5? Turns out - not hard at all. Here it is booting Jumpdrive.
Some caveats:
- requires permission setting on Linux I may work out-of-box on other platforms though
- it's sloooow, but there's hope: https://github.com/WebAssembly/design/issues/1271
- asks 5 times to allow access to the device. Could go down to 3, but no less than that.
Not bad :D
Plasma Mobile is buggy and unstable, but it does many things right imo.
@triskelion @purism I appreciate what GrapheneOS and other projects are doing. I wish gOS good luck in:
- getting early access to future #AOSP sources as development is no longer public.
- fixing the myriad of #Google shenanigans with the OS and Chromium.
- getting mental health help for the main developer - he deserves all the help he can get.
Unlike gOS, #Linuxphone development is not riding on decades of Google funded development of the OS. Progress is therefore slower but it is improving gradually.
Besides #PureOS, there is also #Mobian and #postmarketOS - I especially look forward to the latter's future #ImmutableOS version which would have security benefits as well.
Just used the Web flasher for the first time and it worked pretty much flawlessly! Using a #OnePlus6T :)
(Private Chromium/Brave session did not work though)
It's a very convenient way to update/flash your phone and I love that I can run #docker containers in #PostmarketOS now!
EDIT: Added screenshot
@dan I am not sure whether RCS (the replacement for SMS and MMS) is a similar beast, as AFAIK no #LinuxMobile OS supports it yet (not an issue yet, as things fall back to SMS or MMS).
With regard to the PinePhone and Librem 5: I know that I don't recommend the PinePhone anymore (as a device for users at least), and while there's more hope for the Librem 5, I think other devices (originally running Android) are better choices for most. @spaceraser @ossobuffo
@janvlug @praveen …and just to be sure: this isn't in any way limited to the #Librem5, works just as well on other #LinuxMobile devices. Using it on a OnePlus6T on a daily basis.
Someone should make a version of SHENZHEN I/O solitaire for #linuxmobile

With the alarm clock waking the phone from suspend we still need to make sure the alarm sound is audible. We thus need it to have a volume level separate from e.g. media, notifications, calls, etc. This is possible with #wireplumber's "role based policy". There's a lot of lose ends to fix before this all can land but here's a quick demo in #phosh (the alarm sound your is played via #feedbackd which adds the necessary role):
