Time for an #introduction .

I am an #author of five books under another name. 1 zombie apocolypse, a female led #fantasy trilogy, and an experimental #litrpg. I learned from each experience, and I come to you now as J.R Warden.

My personal goal is to launch a huge #grimdark fantasy with this pen name. Swords and spells, mad kings and ancient evils. I know what I want, and I know how to do it. Just need time.

"Sporemageddon" is my new favorite fantasy series.

What is it about, you ask?

Imagine a steampunk megacity full of destitute poverty and smog (and magic), where a mycologist is reborn into said poverty, and stepwise gets radicalized into becoming a (mostly) solo eco-terrorist, who as a preteen grows and sells mushrooms by the day, while her spare time is spent going on a holy crusade against the police and capitalism.

Look, I love #LitRPG as much as the next person with no discerning taste in literature, but the "poor young man gets transported and must grow strong by himself while becoming more ruthless and lives don't matter" trope really needs to fuck right off into the sunset.

At least put a real twist on it.

And by twist, I don't fucking mean "harem" (with the emotional maturity of an almost-incel, often).

In case anyone was wondering what I've been doing the past few months, well, I tried the litrpg genre for the first time back in January. Then poof, 3 months had past. Here are some tips if anyone's interested, with highlights curated for fedi:

Wolf of the Blood Moon by Shane Purdy

Wolfgirl. Only first book in audio, more on the way. MC seems aro/ace, possibly autistic?

Fallen Lands by C Peinhopf

Foxgirl/kitsune. MC is a teenager, very little romance, no sexy stuff.

Talyn's Saga by Benjamin Medrano

Succubus. Poly-lesbian. Mostly off-screen or fade-to-black sexy stuff, despite being kinda horny.

Beneath the Dragoneye Moons by Selkie Myth

Healer who made an unbreakable oath to "do no harm" essentially when she was 8, in a very violent world (with dinosaurs!) I think she's revealed to be gay in later books. (She's like 8-15 in the first couple of books.)

I've finished my first book of 2025 and it was awesome!
Dungeon Crawler Carl is also the first "LitRPG" book I've ever read, and I have a strong feeling I'll become OBSESSED with this genre. The remainder of this series is firmly in my TBR, and I've added "He Who Fights With Monsters" and "Life In The North" too.

I'll have some more thoughts on this after I'm sufficiently caffeinated.

I've Finished: The first book of the Chrysalis 3 book bundle by RinoZ

The Antventure Begins

I don't usually read books based on progression games.

I found Chrysalis repetitive but entertaining.

It was recommended by @futurebird, an Ant enthusiast that assured me the Ant facts in it are correct.

I guess it is based on a single player type game so no party with multiple characters. Antony does gain a pet monster, but mistreats it quite a bit.

He also often declares that the colony is above all, but acts selfishly to advance his own stills.

There is allot of combat action with thought given to melee tactics, but not much thought to what type of skill or attack is more effective against a particular monster. There are time that it is clear that magical attacks are more effective as Antony continues to try and power bite through almost impenetrable hide.

I did enjoy it as a popcorn read.

Note that the book ends in the middle of a major event, so getting the 3 book bundle may be a good idea.
