Patrick Grant - Less

Well-informed exposition of the merits and potential of sustainable clothing. The author's "put his money where his mouth is", so speaks from experience of both high-end tailoring and factory-made clothes.

His descriptions of the olden days seemed to me at times a bit over-romanticised. But I basically agreed with his arguments about the economics and satisfactions of present-day sustainable manufacturing. This is a framework that government should have in mind, with regard to both education and economic regeneration. And I enjoyed his enthusiasm about how to make really good clothes! It was a boost to my own sewing-enthusiasm :-)

(Some will recognise the author from the TV show Sewing Bee.)

Been a while since I breadboarded a non-trivial #electronics project. NE555 IC astable oscillator controls the RPM of a spinning disk driven by a DC motor, with the help of a photo interrupter sensor, full bridge rectifier, and a counterfeit LM358 dual op amp

This Sunday was demolding time for Thuh current project. And it's looking pretty neat 🥳 Ok I'm revealing already a little to much in the pics. The next time you'll see this Bad Boy it will polished, pristine, finished and available :thinkerguns:

This is what the bottom looks like. I tried to make the resin as pigmented as possible to hide the electronics. When lit up and looked at in the dark, the electronics become somewhat visible as a silhouette.

It is done \o/

This is a goodbye present for my friend and colleague, who will resign her job next week. She is a huge #Minecraft fan, so I made her an #axolotl out of epoxy resin, put it in a fancy resin cube and lit the whole thing up with addressable LEDs. I would have used simple fairy lights, but I didn't have any 🙈 ... So I used what I found in my cupboard, which was WS2812B's and an Arduino Nano.

Making the axolotl was a bit of an experimental adventure, but it worked well.

I call it cute-alotl, because it turned out way too cute 🙈

It has two USB ports at the back, one for programming the Arduino and the other for power. Unfortunately the Arduino cannot power the required 1.5A for the LEDs.

It also has glow in the dark powder mixed into two back walls, so it will continue to glow when powered off.
