I took this photo of him when he was signing books at Hotel La Fonda in Santa Fe during the Left Coast Crime conference.
I was a big fan of his work, particularly his ability to write evocative descriptions.

San Francisco Noir Alley Cats ~ watercolor
Artwork for #Fensterfreitag & #Caturday. My painting is inspired by a love of cats, rain, San Francisco and classic film. There's a nod to a favorite noir "Dark Passage" set in 1940's #SanFrancisco. A #window in the distance displays a little painting.
