A puzzle for #rugby law nerds
In the #RWC2023 final, a try by Aaron Smith was disallowed
1. Etzebeth fouled Retallick in the lineout (penalty)
2. The foul caused a knock on at the lineout
3. Play went on and Smith scored in the corner
4. TMO check disallowed the try because of the knock-on, but the original penalty was awarded to NZ
Now...if Etzebeth's foul prevented a probable try (we know it was probable - it was scored) shouldn't a penalty try have been awarded?

That was very much not the match I was expecting, but it sure did keep me watching! I can’t help feeling that South Africa got lucky there. They were not playing that well in the second half, even against a short-sided New Zealand, though there were errors aplenty from both sides. Had they SA knocked it off with the drop goal attempts, they might have managed a more decisive victory. #rugby #RWC2023 #NZLvRSA

Tense.
More cards than a kid's birthday party.
#Springboks have been to four cup finals, won all four.
Thanks to @emarktaylor and @greub for quality live posting.
Congratulations Bokke, and kudos to Wayne Barnes, you can moan all you like about how much TMO there is, but not one call you can argue with in that match.
#AllBlacks could have squeaked it, and it's testament to their team spirit and classy moves, they were a hair's breadth away.
Hugs all!
Schade, zu viele kleine Fehler. Und ein harter Gegner. #allblacks #rwc2023
Yaaaaaaaaasssssssss
@rugby McKenzie practically smothers Faf in the face at the scrum, NZ manage to force a very messy maul, but it goes nowhere.
Barnesy turns and whistles.
South Africa retain the world title, and the #RWC2023 champions.
Wow.
Haven't seen a final like that, ever.
Lots to talk about, but for now I need to go breathe into a paper bag for a bit.

Wow, breathless stuff there for a few.
Boks have subbed a bunch of forwards, NZ now following suit.
All Blacks have had all the entertaining rugby, but Kolbe is just phenomenal and is everywhere you want him to be.
Time off for us all to breathe out and refocus while Kolbe gets what looks like a whole kitchen roll wrapped around his thigh.
NZ have made so many handling errors. If they cut them out they might be well in front.
