Let me introduce you to the #VTech of yesteryear: A #Simplex toy #typewriter from the 1930s.
@avoca @mcc i didnt mean for it to be, but #session relies on a #cryptocurrency for the network to function so it shouldnt be on the list anyway, its just a way to start thinking about the different categories of encrypted messengers, #deltachat and #simplex would either be categorised alongside federation or be in a category halfway between federation and peer to peer, #cwtch and #meshtastic would go in the p2p section
@mcc #Signal is centralised and was attempted backdoored by the uks online safety bill and saved by signal threatening to walk. Simplex is open source and quantum resistant e2ee like signal and also has its secret group chats and metadata protection like Signal but SimpleX is also decentralised with ip protection, #tor support, no persistent id basically "a burner phone for every contact"
Signals centralisation also makes it more vulnerable to total censorship, all you need to do is block signals domains, being a decentralised network SimplexChat has no single point of failure to censor and anyone can run their own relay node
graphic related but #simplex was unusable when it was published
Woah! Only now did we discover a great blog post from @wq who discusses the progression from hosting a #Matrix , a #Snikket and a #SimpleX server, to now running a #chatmail relay https://runtimeterror.dev/self-hosted-chatmail-relay-for-delta-chat/
It's an excellent read, with lots of good advise, including having a public "hello" profile and another unpublished chat profile for private chatting. #deltachat apps have pervasive multi-profile support (and multi-device support) so it's pretty easy to establish such a two-profile setup.
CALL TO PLAYTESTERS
You have a "Beta" edition of WEKILL//LEAKS? You may have been frustrated while play-testing that sometimes a player cannot play for a few turns in a row?
This "rule-hypothesis" is made for you!
Please TEST THE #GAME using the following rule, redefining the entire draw phase:
"DRAW PHASE:
- The player draws one card, unless their hand is already full with 6 cards.
- If the player did NOT play on previous turn (ie. "pass"), they may discard a card and draw a new card, up to three times. That's up to three cards that can be discarded, one by one followed by the drawing of a card (meaning that the player can wait to see what they pick before deciding to discard/pick futher..)."
Please report back, and also feel free to make suggestions on how to write this better!

Auch im Fediverse gibt es bestimmt Menschen die noch #whatsapp benutzen.
Möglicherweise liegt es daran, dass sie keine Alternativen kennen.
@simplex bietet 100% Datenschutz, 100% Privatsphäre, 100% Sicherheit und 100% Anonymität.
Kein Tracking, keine Telefonnummer, keine Chatkontrolle, Account in 20 Sekunden erstellt
Atelier #SimpleX à la cantine. Après pas mal d'efforts, on a réussi à se connecter, à créer un groupe, et à essayer plein de fonctions.
@ente #Signal is centralised and was attempted backdoored by the #uk s #OnlineSafetyAct and saved by signal threatening to walk. #Matrix *is decentralised but no quantum secure #e2ee like signal nor its metadata privacy or secret group chats. #SimpleX has both and more. more decentralised than matrix. quantum-secure e2ee, metadata privacy, ip protection, #tor support, no persistent id basically "a burner phone for every contact" dms need invites so less dm flooding than matrix
Installed #SimpleX as alternate to #Session after it stopped working on #GrapheneOS. This looks pretty nice, looks like also webrtc voice is sent through relay servers, so IP should be safe.
The connect to desktop works too.
My Address if somebody wnats to test too:

Thinking about an @alternativeto @signalapp ...
Better moderation, #selfhosting, better privacy, @torproject support and most importantly decentralized infrastructure
Apart from just running #XMPP over #i2p or #tor with forced OMEMO encryption etc., @simplex really is the most promising alternative.
I have also tried @cwtch from @openprivacy and it seems like UX got better? But #SimpleX really makes progress, the #Flux network is pretty cool, lot of useful features and can be selfhosted!
Why is #Signal the only obvious winner here?
What about #SimpleX, #Matrix, #Conversations/ #XMPP, #Briar, #Threema and others?
Signal is cool, secure and works well. But tbh SimpleX also works well and already has better group moderation
Matrix has native clients outside the official ones, #NeoChat and #FluffyChat work really well!
PRs are opened! I hope they will be well received.
@CoMaps
will the next comaps release also have the bicycle layer feature from #organicmaps?
also note: #simplex is run by an all out cimate-change-denying MAGA-nazi transphobe. if you think i'm exaggerating, check his X.
MLS: The Naked King of End-to-End Encryption
The goal of this essay is to revisit the core problems that #MLS aims to solve, and consider whether it solves them well enough. And if it does not solve them well enough, then what areas it can be effectively applied to, and what are the alternatives to MLS.
What Problem Does MLS Aim to Solve?
The problem that the #cryptographers who designed MLS aimed to solve is end-to-end (E2E) #encryption in large groups. #E2E encryption, by definition, is a cryptographic solution that protects the content of the messages from the #communication providers.
A simple approach to E2E encryption in large groups would be for all members to agree on a shared key. But the problem of this approach is the cost of key updates. If the group is really large, then every time a member leaves, the remaining members must agree on a new key so that the member who left cannot decrypt the new #messages. With a simple approach the cost of agreeing on the group key grows linearly with the group size, and it does not scale well enough.

@0xabad1dea It makes sense 2 have an arsenal of privacy & anonymity tools, but not 2 always b totally private bc u sacrifice authenticity accountability & discoverability all of which r important for building movements. That being said there r contexts in which a public social network more private than mastodon makes sense, for that I recommend #Simplex over alternatives (matrix, deltachat briarproject cwtch signal) details here https://social.coop/@ambiguous_yelp/114586803022221116 & here https://social.coop/@ambiguous_yelp/114892908675289611
@drahardja If students want to combat #surveillance they should use #FLOSS end to end encrypted decentralised software like #simplex https://simplex.chat #e2ee #encryption #privacy
Got my first push notifications on #SimpleX
@dan_ballard I hope people will consider https://simplex.chat over #discord and #facebook its #FOSS #decentralized and has #QuantumResistantEncryption , IP obfuscation with a custom onion routing protocol, and no user ids meaning its like "a burner phone for every contact" I think that communications warfare is something we need to take more seriously in the path to revolution #simplex
Gearing up for Wednesday night #amateurradio #simplex net in #losangeles on 446.500FM. 8PM. I'll be sending out #aprs packets from #elysianpark.
