Climate scientist Colin Manning says that summertime storms are not uncommon, but winds of this magnitude – exceeding 90mph in some exposed areas – certainly are unusual. If I got a penny for every newspaper photograph showing a young lady struggling with her umbrella as it is being torn to pieces by the wind, I'd hace enough to buy a First class ticket to London and acquire a handmade wooden umbrella in some posh shop in Jermyn Street.

Day off, and my original plan was to either head off out to a movie at the Filmhouse, or to catch a Fringe show.

Looks at storm-force winds warning, listens to gales hitting the windows, decides it is a day inside, playing records and reading... Diverting warp power to the kettle...
