#Storm #Floris has inundated #Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England with wet and windy weather more reminiscent of autumn than early August. Climate scientist Colin Manning says that summertime storms are not uncommon, but winds of this magnitude – exceeding 90mph in some exposed areas – certainly are unusual. Manning explains the link with climate change, and why the arrival of Floris at this time of year makes it more dangerous.

Storm Floris (UK)

If I got a penny for every newspaper photograph showing a young lady struggling with her umbrella as it is being torn to pieces by the wind, I'd hace enough to buy a First class ticket to London and acquire a handmade wooden umbrella in some posh shop in Jermyn Street.

Day off, and my original plan was to either head off out to a movie at the Filmhouse, or to catch a Fringe show.

Looks at storm-force winds warning, listens to gales hitting the windows, decides it is a day inside, playing records and reading... Diverting warp power to the kettle...

The bolt makes the shot. I was watching some storms (very active with lightning) move towards the backyard canyons yesterday. I shot this handheld by just keeping the camera held to my eye and shooting when I saw lightning (1/140s exposure). That actually does work sometimes, but it better be an active storm! - Harding County, New Mexico, USA #NewMexico #landscape #landscapephotography #nature #scenicsnature #outdoors #lightning #storm #thunderstorm #canyon #cloud #clouds #Fujifilm #FujifilmXT5 #Tamron
