Inside musical instruments gapes an emptiness that, to the eye of photographer Charles Brooks, resembles the vast architecture of music halls and cathedrals. In his series “Architecture in Music,” Brooks takes us into these empty spaces, revealing where the resonance at the heart of the instrument’s sound lies. In a stringed instrument like a violin, the vibration of the strings makes a relatively quiet sound on its own; it’s only in making the violin’s entire hollow body vibrate that resonance amplifies the strings. When this happens, not only do your brain and ears perceive it, but your cells may also. Technically speaking, sound is a simple phenomenon, consisting of compressional mechanical waves transmitted through substances, which exists universally in the non-equilibrated material world. Sound is also a vital source of environmental information for living beings, while its capacity to induce physiological responses at the cell level is only just beginning to be understood. Following on previous work from 2018, a team of researchers at Kyoto University have been inspired by research in mechanobiology and body-conducted sound -- the sound environment in body tissues -- indicating that acoustic pressure transmitted by sound may be sufficient to induce cellular responses.

These are vibration sensing, no wiring required. Just stick them to the case somewhere and when the motor is running, the regular vibrations activate it and it counts engine hours, stopping when the engine comes to a rest.

Has a CR2032 battery on the back. We'll see how that lasts. The display goes to sleep when not in use.
