Finally found time to read “Metaphor vs. Mechanics: Don’t Fight the Fusion” by Matt Forbeck:

Well worth the read for anyone interested in #TTRPGs and #BoardGames, even #Wargames.

I touched on this years ago from the perspective of introducing newcomers to gaming, though Matt’s terminology of “metaphor” is far more artful than my use of “theme.”

Playtested some new monsters for my upcoming game.

The zephyr beetle (a flying creature) and the marauder beetle (a tanky brute) feel about right.

The huge goliath beetle, on the other hand, WRECKED my party. First my shield warden went down, and then my dog. Only an extremely lucky critical hit at the end saved my hero archer, but in a real game, he would probably not make it back out of the dungeon after being so hurt...

Doing some more work on the papercraft miniatures for the second adventure location of my solo miniatures RPG "Fable on your Table" (second edition).

This set introduces outdoor battles, and I think the papercraft terrain and enemies are starting to look pretty good.

This time, I remembered to time myself. Each miniature takes only about two minutes to score, cut out, and assemble. Not bad!

Assembled some papercraft miniatures for a new adventure setting for my solo miniatures-based RPG game, "Fable on your Table".

Shown are:

* Giant beetles (Zephyr, Maurader, and Goliath varieties)
* Some vampires
* Werewolves
* Some "oakens" – living tree giants

These were just two pages printed out. Didn't take long to score 'em, cut 'em out, and glue 'em up!

It's Friday, Gazetteer time! this week I think aloud about starter sets (increasingly nearly all I want from a trad RPG), we look at Kickstarters for
@maxmoongames's new solo RPG zine & @modiphius's revised 6mm wargame plus all kinds of other stuff to enjoy

Wyrd ScienceStarters for Tenthis week we're thinking about RPG starter sets, salty sea wizards and tiny tanks that go boom. seems like a normal enough way for an adult to spend their time.
