Apparently the debate around the #carlsen #niemann controversy has died down a lot, I guess the lawsuit has a chilling effect and/or everyone is tired of the topic already. Nonetheless, the topic is too important for tournament #chess at any level to let it disappear. Summary for now:
- We don't know for sure if there was #cheating by Hans Niemann in OTB games but we have learned that it is way too easy to do so to ignore the possibility.
- We don't know if chesscom and PMG have colluded to exclude Niemann on a whim but we know they have way too much market power combined and chess pros risk too much speaking out against either - especially once they are merged.
- Way too many players and officials (Niemann, Aagard, Sutovsky...) have a cavalier attitude about cheating outside the big money tournaments. With the difficulty of statistical cheat detection in small samples we must expect consistently clean play from anyone who wants to be taken seriously as a pro.
- Chess players are not always nice people.
