My family are #workingclass. When I was born they still were. Because my mom gave up school to support me & my sister, got a good #job we became #middleclass. I'm middle class because of this.

One way of understanding middle class political disquiet in the UK is to look at international comparison of the earnings of the top 10% of workers (which includes the 'upper middle class' & is what many budding middle class workers aspire to in their careers).
While the top 1% are still doing well in international terms, the relative fall in top 10% incomes may explain some of the middle class anger that seems to lie behind our current political travails?
A republic cannot stand without balance — and the middle class once kept it.
