Cars from the early 1990s are using about 20-25% less fuel as modern cars and have catalytic converters as well. The expected milage is 2-3x higher than todays cars. Yes, modern cars have less harmfull exhaust gases, but it is not that much and if you calculate the environmental impact of a car or any device, energy consumption is only part of the whole picture. The energy and ressources to made the thing have to be considered as well. David HembrowIt was -7 C when I got up this morning. -6 C when I got around to measuring the temperature outside, where our heat pump was reducing the air temperature to -12 C in order to heat air inside to +45 C. Initial power consumption is 1350 W, which drops as soon as we approach the set temperature. But in this case the old refrigerator (which was in our home when we moved here 17 years ago) was using an absurd amount of electricity. GiselleCame across a money saving tip that's totally obvious, but I couldn't think of it at the question of how. The clue is this: The average person throws away 30-40% of food they buy... Oh. Oh!
