We can now open and close this without damaging the map. The map continues on the verso. Daniel Bellingradt :mastodon:<p>A trilingual edition (Danish/German/Latin) from 1672 used a completely new image for the page about bookseller's shops: <a href="https://digital.slub-dresden.de/werkansicht/dlf/65575/291" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">digital.slub-dresden.de/werkan</span><span class="invisible">sicht/dlf/65575/291</span></a> </p><p>Now we see a crowded room (only men), tables with bound books, and various single-sheet items (<a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/broadsides" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>broadsides</span></a>), a wall full of <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/backwardsbooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>backwardsbooks</span></a> (waiting for a bookbinder), another wall full of boxes or stacked unfolded sheets, and in the middle: various prints, a map, and two globes. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/maphistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>maphistory</span></a> </p><p>7/14</p>
Daniel Bellingradt :mastodon:<p>All roads lead to Rome. Meet the earliest known European map with a scale: This woodcut "south up" map by Erhard Etzlaub offers a route to Rome - located on the top of the map - through early modern German speaking Europe. The map was printed as a single-sheet item, and was made in Nuremberg for the Holy Year 1500.</p><p>Etzlaub wanted his "Rom-Weg" map to be bought, so he offered colored versions too, like the one you see, because these were more expensive.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/MapHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MapHistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BookHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BookHistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/histodons" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>histodons</span></a> </p><p>1/4</p>
Daniel Bellingradt :mastodon:<p>All this and more is <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/bookhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bookhistory</span></a> nowadays: <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/newshistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>newshistory</span></a>, journalism from handwritten to printed to digital news transmission, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/maphistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>maphistory</span></a>, visual mapmaking by humans on whatever material, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/printinghistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>printinghistory</span></a>, using global printing technologies, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/manuscript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>manuscript</span></a> usages ...(and more). Too much, isn't it? Remember the riot reference?</p>
