Hook-barred Spearhorn (Chrysotoxum festivum). A hoverfly typically found in grassland and scrub. The larvae are possibly associated with root aphids in ant nests.

Wrapping up my editing for the Macquarie Island trip. Was taking roughly 7,000 frames a day with the burst mode on. That's a lot of files to delete.

Good morning from Yarra Bend, where one little pardalote was stuffing his belly full of breakfast.
Pardalotes are the most beautiful bird that most Aussies have no idea even exist. This one is the Forty-spotted Pardalote.
I have no idea what he was scoring in the tree tops. It looks like a mayfly nymph. I hung around for a while and he scored little things off the ground as well, not just in the trees.
A few locals from last week. Red-browed Finch. Butcher Bird. Willy Wagtail.
Always something to photograph on a walk in this city.

Teenage swallow enjoying plenty of care from mum and dad, and lots of dragon flies.
And here's the New Holland Honeyeater giving us a little attitude and a smarmy glance as only these feathered buffoons can do.
Shared this beautiful moment with @enzo on a walk around Westgate Park today. Was shooting through some bushy scrub, giving a rich level of bokeh I couldn't have hoped to plan for. Nature is an artist.
Also had the company of a dozen or so honeyeaters, but this Little Wattlebird kinda stole our heart first :)
One for the micro four thirds crowd. Pushing bokeh to the limits on small sensors. Amazing what you can do with a fast lens even on the smaller sensors.
