Linux Is Best<p><span>Linux mascot history 101<br><br>In the beginning, before Linux used a penguin for their mascot, there was a fox. To be more specific, a female humanoid fox. This human face to Linux at the time was controversial because shortly after the creation of the character, Rule 34 of the Internet took place.<br><br>For those who do not know, Rule 34 is an Internet meme which claims that some form of pornography exists concerning every possible topic. And with a female humanoid fox, it should not be hard to imagine the furry type photos that started amounting pretty quickly.<br><br>It was for this reason, that a genderless, more natural mascot for Linux was adopted. <br><br>Sometime afterward, the original artist of this character publically spoke out in support of gay rights. In the 1990s, this was still extremely controversial and only furthered many Linux developments to further distance themselves from the Linux Fox character. <br><br>Although the Internet from that point forward associated the Fox as a female lesbian (again, Rule 34). Around 2010 or so, Trans Rights became both a political and social issue, and the Linux Fox character was often associated with the Trans Rights movement.<br><br>And now you know the brief history of the original proposed Linux mascot.
