"For six years, Gady Levy, executive director of the Temple Emanu-El Streicker Cultural Center in #Manhattan, has had a dream: to host the world’s largest #Shabbat dinner.

The previous record, documented by the #GuinnessBook of World Records, was set in Berlin in 2015, when 2,322 people gathered for a #Shabbatmeal during the European Maccabi Games.

Now, this fall, Levy aims to top that with The Big Shabbat, a massive #Shabbatdinner to be held on Friday, Nov. 21 at Javits North, the newest addition to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center at 445 11th Avenue. More than 3,000 people are expected to attend the event, which Temple Emanu-El is organizing in partnership with UJA-Federation of #NewYork. It will include a meal “curated” by celebrated #Jewish foodies Adeena Sussman, Jake Cohen, Joan Nathan and Beejhy Barhany."

You're invited to join the The Spinoza Havurah for an Arts Farbregen (led by myself) this Saturday at 10 am Eastern/3 pm UK.

(Registration link below)

The focus of our discussion for the farbregen will be some works of visual art, with each work of art being using as a spark for conversation, but we will also close our time for our humanistic Kaddish, as well as kiddush and Ha'motzi.

We will also have an optional arts activity that participants are welcome to engage in during our discussion time. If you want to participate, all you will need is some paper and your favorite drawing tools (pencils, colored pencils, ink pen, markers, etc.)

"If ever there was a #synagogue that’s earned the right to throw itself a birthday shindig, it’s this elegant and intriguing house of worship in central #Norway only 220 miles south of the Arctic Circle.

Over the past century, the #Trondheim Synagogue has weathered isolation from the rest of the #Jewish world; the #Holocaust, which wiped out half its community; challenges related to #Shabbat observance because of its far northern latitude, and persistent #antisemitism that has only grown worse since the war in Gaza began in 2023.

This fall, the synagogue will be observing its 100-year anniversary with a three-day celebration, culminating with an Oct. 26 event which members of Norway’s royal family, the country’s prime minister, the mayor of Trondheim and other dignitaries are scheduled to attend."

"#NewYork’s Festival #Sefarad — which is inspired by the Festival Séfarad de #Montréal, which celebrated its 45th anniversary last month — will include robust programming with more than 40 events, including #Shabbat dinners, #book talks, #tours, #workshops, #films and #concerts.

#NewYorkCity is home to one of the most diverse and dynamic #Jewish communities in the world,” the American #Sephardi Federation, one of the lead organizers of the festival, said in a statement. “After the atrocities of #October7, the need for creating communal, intellectual, and cultural connections that bring all #Jews together has never been greater.”

Jewish Telegraphic Agency · NYC’s first-ever month-long celebration of Sephardic Jewish culture is now underwayBy Jackie Hajdenberg

"The #Sephardic #Hebrew Center in #Havana stands as a cornerstone of #Jewish life in #Cuba, preserving the cultural and religious identity of its community for generations. Founded by Sephardic immigrants from Turkey, Greece, and the Ottoman Empire, the center embodies the spirit of a community that left its homelands in search of opportunity and safety, bringing with them rich traditions, language, and customs that have shaped Jewish life in Havana to this day. From its earliest days, the Sephardic Hebrew Center served not only as a #synagogue but also as a cultural hub, a place where #Ladino songs filled the air, traditional dishes graced #Shabbat tables, and Sephardic history and identity were passed down from parents to children."

There’s something about Shabbat that invites us to exhale.

To step out of the noise… and into presence.

For me, it’s not about perfection — it’s about pause.

A table set with love (even if it’s just for one).

A quiet moment with a candle, a prayer, a breath.

Wherever and however you welcome Shabbat, may it bring you even a sliver of peace, of grounding, of connection.

Shabbat Shalom from my heart to yours 💙✨

When I was cleaning out the freezer for #Passover I found a Ziploc of leftover chicken soup from _last_ Passover that we froze at the end of the holiday and never ate. So I took it out and defrosted it and I've been gradually eating it all week.
I just finished it for lunch today, and now I'm about to make a new pot of soup for #Shabbat.
It's the circle of (Jewish) life.
#Mazeldon

Shabbat Shalom שבת שלום

As the week winds down, here’s your gentle reminder to pause.

Not because everything is done — but because you deserve a moment to breathe.

To unplug.

To be present.

To trade doing for just being.

Whether you light candles, take a walk, share a meal, or sit quietly with your thoughts — let this be your reset.

A time to reconnect with yourself, your people, and what truly matters.

Wishing you peace, calm, and a full heart this weekend.

Shabbat Shalom to all who could use a little stillness and light.

Shabbat Shalom 💙

This week felt like a marathon.

So much happening, so many emotions, and honestly, I barely had time to catch my breath.

But now, here comes the pause — this built-in moment to step back, exhale, and just be.

No matter how the week went — whether it was productive or chaotic, uplifting or exhausting — this pause arrives, untouched by everything that came before it.

A reset.

A reminder that we are more than what we accomplish, more than the worries we carry.

So as the Shabbat enters, I’m embracing the quiet, letting a warm glow fill the space.

A small moment, but powerful enough to shift everything.

I hope you find a moment to unplug, to breathe deeply, and to soak in the peace that this time brings.

Shabbat Shalom, with love,
Inbal 💙🤍

Shabbat Shalom שבת שלום 💙🤍

Three more hostages are home.

And it’s heartbreaking.

Seeing them, my mind go straight to Holocaust survivors.

My heart shatters at what they’ve been through.

But they are free.

And to some extent, so are their families.

I hope that future days and Shabbats bring them more light, more healing, and more peace.

And for all of us, too.

Shabbat Shalom שבת שלום 💙🤍

Shabbat Shalom ✨

This Shabbat carries a special kind of hope.

Three more hostages are scheduled to be returned tomorrow — three families who have been holding their breath for over 480 days may finally be reunited.

It’s a reminder that even in the darkest times, the prayers, the unity, and the unwavering love of Am Yisrael never stop.

As we welcome the Shabbat, may we hold space for those still waiting, for those who have endured the unimaginable, and for the safe return of every hostage still in captivity.

May this Shabbat bring light, comfort, and the kind of miracles we so desperately need.

Shabbat Shalom 🎗🎗🎗
