Sander Meijer<p>So, it appears, that when you mount the fan to suck the warm air out of the rack, it works better than when you mount it in such a way it blows cool air in. 🤪 </p><p>To my defense (hopefully), the fan looks real weird in my opinion when you mount it correctly, so that was the reason I mounted it false initially.</p><p>Rack temperature dropped from 46 degrees with one side open to 37 degrees with everything neatly closed.</p><p><a href="https://mountains.social/tags/fail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fail</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/itstuff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>itstuff</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/homelab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homelab</span></a></p>
Sander Meijer<p>Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. After much deliberation I have chosen Duplicati as my new backup tool for the homelab.</p><p>Duplicati ended up on my shortlist, together with Bareos. Bareos had in fact more potential, but I found it too un-intuitive and would have to put a lot of time in getting to know the program (time I do not have or am not willing to spend). </p><p>So my compromise is to use Duplicati.</p><p>What I like about Duplicati:<br>✅ Easy intuitive GUI<br>✅ Easy setup of backup target (I use remote systems via SSH and for some S3)<br>✅ It just worked out of the box. No steep learning curve.<br>✅ According to reviews, it can handle slow/instable network connections very good</p><p>What I dislike about Duplicati:<br>⚠️ No parallel backup jobs<br>⚠️ No on-prem central gathering of backup results (am doing it now via <a href="https://www.duplicati-monitoring.com" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">duplicati-monitoring.com</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> (might change to just mail, not sure yet)<br>⚠️ No easy way in GUI to see which files were backupped</p><p>Thanks again!</p><p><a href="https://mountains.social/tags/Duplicati" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Duplicati</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/Bareos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Bareos</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/HomeLab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HomeLab</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/ITstuff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ITstuff</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/Backup" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Backup</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a></p>
Sander Meijer<p>❓ backup tools home-lab ❓</p><p>Re-evaluating the current backup tools for my home-lab as the lab grew over time in size and complexity. Currently am using a wild mix of tools. What tools do you use?</p><p>Requirements:<br>- Filesystem backups (full and incremental) of approx 15 Linux systems<br>- Central administration (preferably by GUI), distributed backup agents of course not a problem<br>- Various backup targets (local disk, SSH, S3?).<br>- Must run fully on-premise (no services in the cloud)</p><p>Nice-to-have:<br>- Direct backup of PostgreSQL and SQL Server databases (instead of just backing up the database dumps)<br>- Windows backups (just file-based)<br>- Integration in Zabbix<br>- Open Source software</p><p>I'm not only looking for free (as in free beer) solutions. I'm certainly willing to pay a (fair) price for good software.</p><p>Am I asking for the impossible here? Appreciate your suggestions! 🙏 </p><p><a href="https://mountains.social/tags/itstuff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>itstuff</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/homelab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homelab</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/selfhosting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>selfhosting</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/backup" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>backup</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/software" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>software</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>
