2nd try (or 3rd if you count last year) with the #pulsesincrease #beans of the #increaseCSE citizen science project. It took them 17 days to sprout on wet kitchen paper. Now I waited a bit too long but finally planted the four remaining varieties #incbn_00000 Meccearly (control), #incbn_03547 Stringless Black Wax (USA), #incbn_00114 Saris Lobio (GE) and #incbn_00087 Boyaca 22 (CO).

No more beans to grow from #incbn_10231 Marché de Genève (CH, I guess) and #incbn_02852 Tondina (IT). #gardening

Remember that #bean sprout that broke through the soil two days ago? Now it‘s growing as it it were on steroids. #increaseCSE #pulsesincrease

PS: Detected mold on one of the sprouted beans. Put it in a glass of water over night and will plant it tomorrow. Let‘s see if it survives. #pulsesincrease #increaseCSE #citizenscience

@drupas @echopapa The Greek variety #00445 has gorgeous pink flowers and it's climbing to over two metres high (searching for the sun, no doubt ), but no pods yet. September can often be nice, but tonight temperatures are forecast to drop to 2°C, so I have covered some of the plants with fleece Also 'harvested' and cooked 3 small pods of the Mexican variety, but compared with my Jersey bean pods (tunnel) not great in terms of flavour/texture #pulsesincrease #bohnen #beans #legumes

Gadenstedter Omabohne bean and 483 bean from Croatia are in a race. Both are now just under 1.90 metres tall

Still all emerged beans are ok. But Austrian 00463 is 100% fail.

It's quite wet this year, so less watering necessary, but slugs everywhere.

The German 02676 (Gadenstedter Omabohne) and 00230 South American Tacoyunya grow fastest and had best emergence.

But no emergence at all with Austrian 00463.

In this bed climbing beans are always growing better than the bush beans, don't know why.

@echopapa looking great! Yours are much more advanced than mine - clearly better weather where you are I suspect some of my varieties will turn out not to be suitable for the West of Ireland. However, my Mexican bush variety 00260 and the German pole 00164 look promising The Greek and the Brazilian ones are at death's door... From what I've read elsewhere, it is common that the odd variety may not germinate at all (for me it was variety 10230) #pulsesincrease #legumes #beans #bohnen

@echopapa @drupas took this pic of one of the #pulsesincrease beds today. Had sown D (French variety 'Marche des trois chenes'), but all ten seeds rotted away. Replaced it with a second row of variety F (Canario from Mexico) from my backup modules, though I will have to exclude that row from the experiment. The others are hanging in, but they haven't grown much in the last week or two...

package arrived 1st of June.

Due to limited space only 4 plants of each variety. But the species are quite different:

"Gadenstedter Omabohne" is growing fast and has 100% emergence. But also a variety with no emergence at all after 4 weeks. The other 4 varieties in between.

Will see how well resowing will work.
