It isn’t just the British political establishment who defend the myth of ‘trickle down economics’

“It was only when I told my Portuguese in-laws about my tax situation and saw the frustration etched across their faces that I understood the unfairness,” Pitney tells me. “My Portuguese family work longer days, earn less and are taxed more.

”Resentment is a feeling harbored by those who, denied the proper response of action, compensate for it only with imaginary revenge.”
-Friedrich Nietzche

That’s what MAGA’s concentration camps are. Resentment camps for imaginary revenge.

White man can’t say racist slur anymore? Compensate with revenge. Can’t sexually harass women anymore? Revenge.

Far right politics is deceptively simple.

The "big, beautiful bill" fulfills JD Vance’s incredibly depressing vision of patriotism

This unholy bunch is taking the soul out of America. Its whole history is built upon immigration and creating chances... the current hillbilly resentment is attacking everything the USA are. It will be weaker if they are allowed to finish this job. Small and ugly — and, un-American. Rome is about to fall...

"Why are so many women choosing to stay single? Is it hatred… or just exhaustion?
We unpack the real reason modern women are stepping away from relationships with men. If you’ve ever asked “What happened to love?” or “Why are women so angry?” — this one’s for you."—Afrodizjha

What to do if bullying? Try consistent boundaries

1. do not writhe or waver. (Movement attracts the bully)
2. do not attempt to appease. (Any offer is interpreted as weakness and obtains thrust)
3. flee to a safe position that you could hold with support
4. then stand still. Set limits on how others treat you. Affirm boundaries (The bully will redirect attacks eventually)
5. connect: turn to a trusted person, reach out only to someone you feel well about
6. offer backing, foster, become accomplice, enjoy

Claiming that they have been "dishonored and disrespected by elite culture" when they haven't been – they've been checked in their claim that God gave this country to them to control – they choose to construe Trump as a divinely sent savior who will avenge them and justify their hate:

"Malice, enmity, resentments: These are the emotions driving many Trump supporters."

Peter Wehner knows his fellow white evangelicals. He's right about this.

Peter Wehner on how Trump and his supporters have "a deep investment in promoting fear" — e.g., in lying about a non-existent crime wave under Biden.

But "for many Trump supporters, then, fear is not so much the cause of their support for the former president as a justification for it. They use fear to rationalize their backing for Trump."

This is, Wehner says, particularly true for Trump's white evangelical supporters.

Above and beyond that, they are deeply inconsistent with claims that one follows Jesus. To brand Christian faith in the US with those words – grievances, resentment, anger, hate — how shameful. How tragic. What a shocking betrayal of the Christian gospels.

And for Donald Trump?!

Perhaps Trump is showing us who white evangelicals have been for a very long time, and what they have been about for a very long time.

Their claims about owning the nation because "God" gave it to them are invalid on the face of it. Anyone, any group, pressing such a claim should be told, in a pluralistic, secular democracy that it's an invalid claim.

This is not disrespect. It's speaking truth.

So the grievances and resentment and anger and hate white evangelicals feel, which make them choose Trump, are unwarranted and unmerited responses.

Who has "dishonored and disrespected" white evangelicals? When have they been dishonored and disrepected?

When they have informed us that "God" gave this nation into their hands, that they are to control it and the rest of us, and they were told that they are inventing a mythology about the founding of the nation and no religion has the right to dictate laws in a pluralistic secular democracy, were they being disrespected?
