Getting my stuff together for #LL16 in Essen in September. Getting all of the data to display in a well-organized and accessible way online using #Omeka. Once I have enough and I am sure the structure is stable enough, then time to tie the items all together.

Zweisprachige Sichtwerbung ist immer eine Herausforderung: Der Platz ist beschränkt, die Schrift darf nicht zu klein sein, meist will man möglichst viele Leute erreichen und dennoch z.B. den sorbischen Charakter betonen.
Hier finde ich das gut gelöst: Eyecatcher auf Deutsch, vieles auf Sorbisch, sorbische Headline zwar kleiner, aber oben (Hierarchie aufgelöst!), das "umgekehrte" Ortsschild (sehr aussagekräftig!) und natürlich die gesamte Farbgebung. Im Fazit eine gelungene zweisprachige Dorffest-Werbung, wie man sie (leider) noch viel zu selten sieht.
Hinter Sighetu Marmației springen die zweisprachigen Ortstafeln lustig zwischen Ukrainisch, Ungarisch und Slowakisch hin und her und gipfeln im dreisprachigen Schild von Satu Mare/Szatmárnémeti/Sathmar.

Marked contrast with the Russian Embassy yesterday. There, two young female private security guards lounged in front of the gate. Chatting and scrolling. They didn't seem to take any notice of me at all as I photographed all of the signs posters flags etc in front of the embassy.
It's a shame! The Ukrainian Embassy was much more interesting. A couple of makeshift memorials left by visitors. And a great photo exhibition with explanatory posters lined the fence in front. #linguisticlandscape

Gaeltacht heißt auch: Deutlich weniger Englisch, Irisch klar an erster Stelle und oft allein zu sehen. Aber wie gesagt auf einige recht kleine Gebiete im Westen der Insel begrenzt.
Und im Detail sind die Preisschilder im Supermarkt dann eben doch wieder exklusiv auf Englisch.
Dank dem einfachen Mittel der Kommunalpauschale für öffentliche #Zweisprachigkeit kehrt das Sorbische in Gegenden zurück, wo man schon nicht mehr damit gerechnet hätte. Zuerst in Schriftform und demnächst auch gesprochen! #LinguisticLandscape #Lusatia #Łužica
Unusal characters in the wild, at least for trees around Leipzig. Clearly looks #CJK-ish, but the only character that I can clearly make out is 無 (Mandarin wu2), which, rather fittingly, means "nothing".
