Just something to think about when you are doling out the rewards for fantasy #RPGs and #TTRPGs #gaming.

Gold coins should realistically be very rare and very valuable, and they do not require nearly as much space or weigh as much as most people think.

Carrying around 100 GP would be extremely dangerous, equivalent to today carrying around tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of dollars in cash on your person.

425 g of gold is today worth about $55,000 USD, with gold at about $4000/troy oz.

I never actually gave that #introduction

So, I'm V. I'm a no-good commie dyke obsessed with the concept of play - #boardgames, #videogames, #RPGs, the endless #BloodOnTheClocktower rabbit hole, you name it. I moved here from an instance that shut down recently, and it seems pretty nice!
On this account, you can expect to see a lot of reviews, commentary, and garbage memes of no value to anyone, plus an unusually high number of pictures of possums, if I had to guess.

Like TTRPGS? Like supporting people who are trying to get back on their feet? How about prestigious names who are also leftist?

Friend of mine just released the FREE quickstart for their new RPG.

Want more reason to dive in and give it a try? This is Malix Nystul... a name that might sound vaguely familiar to those who played 2nd and 3rd edition D&D as dozens of spells bore his name (before 4th genericized all of them). The Archwizard Nystul in Greyhawk is named after him.

So do my wonderful friend a solid and download this, every download helps him out even if you're not spending any money!

Question for anyone interested in such things. In traditional rpgs (I am thinking D&D might be a good example), do you prefer to say, "Your character needs to roll higher than a 11" or "Your character needs to roll a 12 or higher"???

They are both equivalent, just different phrasing.

And that's even before we get into the racism that is literally baked into the ideas underpinning Western Fantasy, in the first place, particularly the very idea of "monsters", which is a word that has a very dark history in human culture.

That's why I've always preferred to have the enemies in my #fantasy #RPGs and #TTRPGs be other people.

Exilian’s Arcade subforum is our area for discussing gaming – if you’d like to chat about your favourite RPGs, strategy games, other cool indie games you’ve found, and more besides, this is the place for that. You can also find some really neat screenshot gallery projects and existing discussions on universes from Dragon Age to Fallout to the Witcher.

For players seeking more than just a power fantasy through numbers, #games like #SaGa offer a refreshing challenge. They demand patience, critical thinking, and a willingness to learn and adapt. The satisfaction derived from overcoming a truly difficult encounter through #strategy, rather than just #grinding, is a unique reward that makes these deep, turn-based #RPGs so compelling.

It's a shame that many JRPGs don't follow this path. The urge to appeal to the broadest possible audience often leads to the underutilization of the creative systems implemented by #developers. Yet, SaGa proves that there is another way, a way that respects the player's intelligence and encourages them to truly explore the depths of the gameplay. May more developers give us JRPGs that force us to think again.

#Obsidian’s #JoshSawyer says it’s a mistake for #RPGs to abandon their crunchy, complex systems, the kind that attract so-called "sweaty" players, in favor of a "one size fits all" approach. And he’s right. You can still include easier #difficulty options without flattening the experience for everyone else.

Not every game needs to be for everyone. Some of us want deep builds, hard choices, and meaningful stats. Sacrificing depth for broad appeal just waters down what makes RPGs special.

Let players opt into the complexity. Don’t erase it.

PC Gamer · Obsidian director Josh Sawyer says it's a 'mistake' for RPGs to sacrifice crunchy 'sweaty boy' systems in favour of a 'one size fits all' game, since easier difficulties aren't too hard to makeBy Harvey Randall

#introduction update for my second Mastodon anniversary!

I'm a #nonbinary #transmasc #lgbtqia person in my late 30s, I live in #Finland and pretty much toot in English.

I've been with my partner @apzpins for over 16 years, we run a #pinball arcade together as a hobby. We have two elderly #cats who also get shared on here on the occasion.

I play a lot of #VideoGames, especially #RPGs and post about my progress, usually with pictures or videos.

I enjoy #travel, I've been to 13 different countries so far. I also enjoy meeting people from all around the world.

I do a lot of #crafts especially when the weather is bad. I #knit, #crochet and #CrossStitch

I'm a #chef by profession, I love good #food and great #coffee. I've been working at a student cafe on a uni campus for almost 7 years.

I like #cycling and try to keep some sort of condition with it. We have pretty good cycling routes in my home town. Photo evidence is shared on the occasion.

If you read this far, and share interests, give me a follow 😁

15 mins in to a 25+ minute fight in expedition 33 i'm like "I get it". Why would they make these fights so long. I assume you can grind to the point they take faster?

Outside of big story bosses no fight should be longer then 10 minutes.
