"This brief summary considered literature from both the hearing and trauma disciplines, with the goal of reviewing mechanisms shared between tinnitus and PTSD, as well as clinical reports supporting mutual reinforcement of both their symptoms and the effects of therapeutic approaches."

"clinicians who offer tinnitus and hyperacusis rehabilitation should screen for suicidal and self-harm ideations among patients with symptoms of depression and a childhood history of parental mental illness"
https://tinnitustherapy.org.uk/adverse-childhood-experiences-and-tinnitus-disability/
"EMDR treatment with #tinnitus includes a comprehensive phase 1 history taking, targeting any precipitating trauma experiences, and “float back,” targeting the negative cognitions about the present experience of #tinnitus."
"Complex trauma opens up another possible pathway between tinnitus and trauma -- one similar to that proposed for the connection between tinnitus and traditional trauma. Let’s say, for example, that my parents belittled me constantly and that as a result I never felt myself competent in handling challenges. Instead, I was made to feel powerless in the face of adverse circumstances and carried this insecurity into my adult life. Hence, when I am faced with the challenge of responding to tinnitus, my sense of helplessness as a child reemerges and blocks my ability to adequately deal with it. As the authors of the EMDR studies propose, this would mean that to treat the #tinnitus we would need to treat the trauma."

What a beautiful paper.

I think tinnitus is the only health problem in this house where the medical establishment is like, "lol just get a white noise generator or something -- nobody knows how to fix that."
Between my wife and I: depression, anxiety, cPTSD, ADHD, chronic migraine, gender dysphoria, blood clotting disorder, pre-diabetes, binge eating disorder, arthritis, cataracts, asthma, skin allergies, seasonal allergies, lactose intolerance, GERD, IBS, insomnia, multiple thyroid issues, PCOS.
Every single one of them has a treatment whether it's surgery or therapy or medication or diet restrictions or something.
We are also on the autism spectrum but that's not really something you can "fix". Okay, so two things don't have a treatment.
But you'd think that tinnitus would have something.
It's constant and irritating and drives me a little bit mad. But, nope.
Nothing.
Well, isn't this a bit of magic

Nothing is working on the #tinnitus today. Oh hey, maybe not waiting until 3pm to drink water isn't helping.
Here's your reminder to drink something with no caffeine
Because I am still working through "kamikat is a weirdo so everything she likes is weird" I was thinking about why I like all the atmospheric music and the Solfeggio frequency tracks. They cancel out my #tinnitus without blowing out my ear.
@londondreamtime Love that story :) Here's one that happened to me. I was sat in my lounge late one night and noticed that I could hear a high pitched frequency coming from somewhere. I went around the room turning off all the electrical appliances one by one. Only after turning everything off in the house I came to the shocking realisation that the noise wasn't external at all. That's when I realised I had #tinnitus That was about 20 years ago now, the ringing never stops & I hate it. The end.

I'm looking for over-ear passive hearing protection that I can wear in bed. Not earplugs. Something without active noise cancellation, as this makes my tinnitus worse. I've been wearing a giant pair of Mouldex ear muffs which do a great job cutting the noise, but are not so ideal when it comes to comfort. I'm a side sleeper, so something with a slim profile is preferred.
Suggestions?
Bin Seitenschläfer, also je schlanker desto besser.

Dieses nervige Pfeifen im Ohr...
Saw an audiologist for my tinnitus last week. It went the same as it always does: "there is literally no treatment for tinnitus and we don't even know exactly what causes it."
Thanks, but my ears are still ringing so loudly I feel the need to speak over them sometimes even though nobody else can hear it.
Thankfully, I also have some pain and pressure in my ears so I get to see a Nurse Practitioner about that in a couple weeks. Won't help my tinnitus. Nothing will.
Not even stabbing my eardrums with an ice pick (I asked -- she said that might even make it worse).
